Hi girls! My husband and I are thinking about moving to St. Louis. What neighborhoods would you recommend for families with kids? We’re especially interested in good school districts and family-friendly areas. Any recommendations or experiences would be greatly appreciated! ❤️

I am originally from Saint Louis . I currently am in Mount Dora Florida . The best school district is Lindbergh school district . So anywhere around there is beautiful also .

Lots of great options, STL is very kid friendly. The city is really great but the city schools… not so much. They are getting better + There are charter schools and private schools. We haven’t gotten to that point yet.
Kirkwood/webster area is nice.
Or there is always the county.
They will always chime in and hate on the city, saying it’s bad and dangerous.
STL area always has this weird thing where it hates on the city, keeping it from reaching its full potential.
It’s truly is a hidden gem! You will love it.

St Louis is so kid/family friendly.
Lindbergh and Maplewood Richmond Heights are both great public school systems. But there are a lot of great charter schools and private schools in the city.
The zoo, science center, art museum, and history museum are all free in Forest Park! The parks system in both city and county are INCREDIBLE.
I prefer living in the city because it's just more my vibe. People who grew up in the county/suburbs or have always lived there will try to convince you that the city is so dangerous. Like all cities, there are some neighborhoods that have higher crime but in general I find the city welcoming and interesting.
Definitely check out Hi Pointe Theater, City Museum, and Fennel Cooking Studio's kid classes!

I live downtown! I’m originally from a small town in South Carolina, so this is a big change for me!
So far, I’ve seen the public schools aren’t the best. But what had helped is finding the right area. My 3 year old is starting a magnet school in a couple days. I had reservations bc of what I’ve seen elsewhere so I I really honed in on the school I chose for her and it really helps that it’s a magnet school and so more hands on with their students.
I don’t have any recommendations on areas as I live downtown and not the county. My recommendation really is just to figure out what you do want and don’t want and then look into what is available based on that. It was how I found my girl’s magnet school. Initially I was only thinking public school, then I stumbled on the school i chose bc it was closer to my wants.
I don’t think I helped lol but I’m commenting anyway just in case it does help in any way! Feel free to pm for anything! 💪🏽🧡

So to clarify about STL. There is downtown, like “downtown downtown” Which is like any other downtown. All of the stadiums are downtown. It was a business district and after Covid it’s kinda dead. The cost of living is inexpensive and it’s very conveniently located by all the highways.
Then there is the “the city” which are within the city of St. Louis limits. South city, central west end, mid town, north city, etc. Many people not from the city call this “downtown” but they don’t know. 😅 lots of historic homes, parks, amazing local restaurants.
Then there is St. Louis County and surrounding neighborhoods to the city. Everything is usually about 20 mins away or less. It’s kinda a Mix of the city and the suburbs and each neighborhood is different.
Finally there is St. Charles, wentzville, eureka, Washington, etc. it’s truly suburbia lined with chain restaurants and big box stores. It can feel like its own little bubble because it’s farther out from the city. 30+ mins away.
