My 4 month old is on omeprazole and has been on it for a little while now for silent reflux. Has anyone done this successfully?

Yes, our LG was on it from 3-9 months. We were advised by the paediatric consultant to start giving it every other day for a week and if she tolerates that then go cold turkey!! But when we did she struggled so we carried on every other day for around 3 weeks then tried again and she’s no longer on it 😊

My little boy has been on omeprazole from about 3 months old he is coming up 1 now. We had him on twice a day, then down to once a day. We were suppose to cut down to 1ml from 2ml (he’s on the 4mg so double strength) but he still struggles with his stomach acid so he’s still on it just down to once a day. My eldest also had it until he was 2 and a half, that’s when he was successfully weaned off it. If I was you I would just do the recommended with cutting it down and going down in ml then just speaking with the doctors and keep them informed because it’s best to have it on stand by than to not have it at all and baby suffer x

Yes, our paediatrician said to taper it. One week at 75% of the usual dose, one week at 50% of the dose, one week at 25% of the dose and then stop. If any of the symptoms come back, go back to the previous week’s dose and do another week. E.g if symptoms come back at the 50% dose then to go back up to 75%, try another week of 75% and then continue to reduce if tolerated. My boy is now off it. All the best!
