Tonsillectomy
My 3 year old is finally booked in to have his tonsils removed next week. After a year and a half of constant tonsillitis, antibiotics 3-4 times a month it’s finally happening. However, I’m an anxious mess - he’s only 3 and I’m so worried. Has anyone else’s little one had their tonsils removed? If so, how was it? What was recovery like?

My son is 3 too and born premature so was high risk but literally had his adenoids, tonsils and grommets done 3 weeks ago. Honestly children are so resilient and I can’t believe how well he dealt with it all from start to finish! My biggest advice is literally give calpol every 6 hour and neurofen every 8 hours on the dot even during the night! I think once they realise it hurts they’ll start refusing to eat and that’s when you’ll start getting issues.. days 6-8 are the worst but my son was still ok just found he ate a bit less these days. It’s good to avoid any red foods during the 2 weeks after so if there’s any vomit/dribble with red in it you know it’s bleed instead of debating whether it’s a bleed or food if that makes sense!
