Is your 2 year olds birthday opportunity a good time for your friend to introduce her new boyfriend?

My friend has asked if she can bring her new boyfriend to my 2 year olds birthday party, so that I can meet him for the first time. They've only been dating for a couple months. I haven't replied or decided what I'm going to say. I'm not sure if my daughters birthday party is the right time to meet her boyfriend. It'll be mainly close friends, neighbors and family there, and children.

I don’t think it’s the birthday that’s the main reason I’d say no, it’s that they’ve only been dating for a couple months.

I’d maybe suggest a coffee or restaurant meet up for the first time so you don’t have to take your child/children, and frame it in a way that then you can give them your full attention rather than running after your child and entertaining your guests x

I think it kind of depends. Is this a friend who is in your daughter’s life a lot or is it a friend you don’t see much? I’d prefer to meet significant people before my daughter meets them but that’s just me.

Far too early, it’s so easy to think someone’s great in the first few months and then you take them around friends and they’re a nightmare! I had a friend take a new bf a wedding, they had been dating 3 months and she didn’t know he had a bit of a drinking problem, got super drunk and ruined the wedding party 😭

Do you know her new boyfriend

I dunno, it sounds from your comments like she gets serious fairly early, and you're concerned the guy won't stick around. I think it depends on their relationship and on her. I met my brother's girlfriend for the first time at my wedding. They're still together 5 years later and she's an absolute delight.

Could it be more that she wants someone to chat to and keep her company at the birthday party? Does she know anyone else apart from you?

I would say yes but that mainly because my daughters parties so far have been huge, 50+ people so they would just keep to themselves and I’d speak to them as and when. My friends boyfriend was going to come to my daughters 2nd birthday. I’d met him once for about 10 minutes and my partner had never met him

So with everything you’ve said, I’d pass on meeting him right now. And for me it’s not b/c it’s my child’s bday party, but more so her history of getting serious quickly.
And not sure where the party is, but if it was at my house, I’m cautious about who comes into my home. I’d tell her let’s just meet him another time.

I would let her come. If she wants to bring him into a personal event, it means she considers the relationship serious (I guess!!). Also, him being there doesn't mean you have to focus on him and start asking him questions or whatever. You're gonna be busy on your son's birthday and she most certainly knows that. She's gonna have her partner during the party.

I hate when people do this
