People say if you want a village you need to be a villager. I want a village but now I villagered too close to the sun and am watching my neighbors 2 year old free of charge for a week 🥲

I’m just tired but I don’t regret the decision, before I moved to this place last year I had a neighbor who agreed to watch my older two kiddos when I went into labor, even if it were the middle of the night, she was a 60 y/o cat lady, who for the two years prior I frequently took my cat over to her place for “play dates” not because I think my cat needed a play date but because it made her happy lmao. Anyways idk what im saying other than I think a lot of people want a village but refuse to be a villager, and sometimes it kinda sucks to be a villager but I don’t have parents im close to, so I feel like I’ve always had to make my village where I can from scraps and it’s always payed off, not that you should do things just to reap some sort of benefit later but you get what I mean

That’s really sweet that you offered to help your neighbour with childcare. It’s not very common these days. I have no village so I’m having to outsource a lot, babysitters, ect… I also find it hard to ask people for help so I’ve never asked friends for help with childcare.

Happens to me all the time too lmao

Is it inconvenient sometimes? Yes. But the price of a village is inconvenience.

I’ve done that before 😅 looked after my nieces for a weekend or the week in the school holidays. I don’t mind coz I take them out and my boy has playmates/cousins to play with. But then again my sisters sometimes takes my boy overnight or for a weekend, they stay back and forth as cousins. Very grateful for my sisters and my village. Bartering groceries is another one 😅 my sisters asks for a whole freezer-bag full of rice. (Or toilet paper 🤣) She gives me movie tickets she gets free from her work. Or when she’s going Costco she’ll get what she knows is my fav, and just drop them off without asking for the payment. Just because she loves me 🫶🏼

I don't mind helping once in a while, especially if it's in a pinch and I'm not busy. The only time I will not is if I'm working or it inconveniences my family. There's almost always room for one more though! Even two.

I’ve always been the villager but my village never showed up for me. I put in the effort and it was so hard or inconvenient. I wouldn’t change it. People need people. However, I need people too. I’m glad there’s other villagers out there not afraid to do something inconvenient 👏👏👏

I have two friends I help out a lot . One of my best friend since we were 12, she’s a single mom and I help watch her daughter who’s the same age as mine which is nice 😊 Another is a couple whom my husband and I have been friends with for quite a while. They have grandparents that help a lot but he’s an only child and the mother likes to have him hang out with my kids. She thinks my son is a good role model for hers which is a very high compliment 🥺
