Recently diagnosed sub clinical thyroid

Hello, I’ve recently found out I’m 6 weeks pregnant after a missed miscarriage 4 months ago. As part of the testing after my miscarriage I was diagnosed with a subclinical thyroid - TSH 8.34 ml U/L. I was prescribed Levothyroxine (25mg a day) on 3 August to lower this and found out I was pregnant quite soon after. I had blood tests this week and these showed a TSH of 6.37 ml U/L. I have been reading online that the target TSH is <2.5 ml U/L for pregnant women, and that most women need a 30/50% increase in Levothyroxine dose but when I asked my GP they refused to give me an appointment and said they would do another routine blood test in 2 months time. Has anyone else had anything similar and did you get any differing GP advice? I’ve now paid for a private appointment as I’m terrified of another miscarriage if I don’t get this sorted out.

It's not just about TSH but also your T4 level.. your dose should be increased in pregnancy if you've been on the same dose and it was controlled but maybe you've been on it for a short period of time so they don't want to rush and increase it?? You should be referred to a consultant and they should be seeing you with your dating scan. Don't worry about the risk of miscarriage you're already on the tablet and your levels are getting better.

I was diagnosed during pregnancy (around 9/10 weeks I think) and put under the care of an endocrinologist at the hospital where I was due to have the baby. It might have been because I wasn’t on levothyroxine previously but they were keen to monitor and reduce it down and I had a blood test every 6 weeks and a telephone consult each time. By the end of my pregnancy I was on 125 levothyroxine. TSH was 6.8 and t4 normal at the start. I get the worry as I had it too and was around 20 weeks before my tsh went within the normal range and I now have a healthy boy who’s about to turn 1. The only thing I wish someone warned me about was how hard postpartum would be trying to rebalance my thyroid and it was only around 9 months postpartum that it went to normal again having swung between over and under active with the medical professionals saying that my symptoms were just normal postpartum when actually it was my thyroid. Wishing you all the best for your pregnancy.

What was your recovery like? How much help and support did you need for the first few weeks?

First go at collecting colostrum

Second baby, 38+1 and managed to get 2x 1ml syringes. It did take about half an hour though 😂

Starting later than I did in my first pregnancy, partially because I don’t want to go into labour yet but also because I just haven’t found the time!

Growth scans / big baby

How accurate have peoples growth scans been? I had a scan at 40+1 and they said the baby is measuring 8.15lb! At 36 weeks she was measuring 6.2lb, so this seems like a massive jump! From the 43rd percentile to 95th! Those who were told they were having big babies, were they born big? I'm only 4'11ft, husband is 6ft and all his family were big babies😭😂

Bleeding

I’m 14 days post partum and just wondering whether anyone has experienced anything similar so my lochia had calmed down next to nothing and then all of a sudden yesterday I had quite a lot of bleeding it slowed down and I went to triage they said they weren’t concerned. I woke up this morning with a little bit of blood on my sanitary towel but when I went to wipe it’s like a blood bath down there again. Anybody else experiencing this?

TOLAC/VBAC

I currently see an OB in Tarzana, CA. I can honestly say I’ve always felt he’s an intelligent man with amazing bedside manner. I had an unplanned c-section November 2022 and have baby #2 on the way in February 2027. My c-section was because my babies cord was wrapped around his neck four times. I did my research and I’d be a great candidate for TOLAC/VBAC. I’ve also viewed Reddit forums where many women have had supportive OB’s that welcome trying. My OB says he can perform it, but makes me feel foolish for wanting to attempt it. Saying that a uterine rupture is harmful to me and detrimental to the baby (death). The fear being instilled in me prevents me from wanting to do this very thing I feel I deserve to experience. However, that very entitlement makes me wonder if I’ll regret attempting it if something goes wrong.

Can anyone share their experience and maybe suggest an OB that was supportive in or near Tarzana, CA?

20 week scan notes

I’m currently nearly 23 weeks pregnant and had my scan at 20 (+1) weeks. I was told baby was measuring well and she looks great. I’ve since spoken to a midwife and a consultant about a complication I have which was discovered on my 20 week scan and has made me a high risk pregnancy. The sonographer, midwife and consultant have all given me different information about this complication each saying my placenta is in a slightly different place. I was hoping to read the scan notes myself, but haven’t received these. I have an online notes system called My Pregnancy Notes, but find not all information is added to this.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Where did you find/were you given your 20 week scan notes?

Thanks
