Girls - I love a glass of wine, who here doesn’t! And I’m breastfeeding and I love breastfeeding. I’ve read and looked into wine and breastfeeding a lot and from what I gather it’s safe to drink and feed. The alcohol that goes into your milk is so minimal and the safety comes more from being able to safely look after your baby from having a drink. I was so cautious with my first child and didn’t drink for ages while feeding her but now I love a glass or two of wine to relax after a day with two kids but I’m still heavily feeding my 12 week old baby. Why does my health visitor still give me outdated advice about pumping and dumping which doesn’t actually get rid of the alcohol and the only thing that does is time! What are all your thoughts? I’d never want to do anything to harm my little but this Mumma wants a tipple now and again x

I’m a health visitor.
Pumping and dumping is old dated advice.
You can drink and breastfeed.
You just have to be able to care for your baby. Please enjoy the glass or 2. A fellow wine lover here too

Same here! I made the decision to have a glass of wine on my birthday, and fed my baby (she’s now 6 months) a few hours later, but recently I’ve had the odd small glass of wine and fed 20 mins later and all good! You’re right I’ve read into it too and as long as you’re not binge drinking and safe to hold baby then it’s generally okay 😊

I'm 15 months into breastfeeding and always enjoyed a couple glasses here and there and never bothered to pump & dump / always fed my baby as normal. Advice is just outdated like you said. Even if you were super drunk they'd get more alcohol from a banana 😅 They just don't want women looking after babies drunk which is fair enough. No harm if you're still being sensible ☺️❤️

I wish I knew this before because I rang up the helpline to ask about this and was told by 2 different people 2 different things. First pump and throw away and then was told I had to wait 24 hours 😫

I felt the exact same way as you (first time mum here) had me so worried but in the end after several months of contemplating😭, I decided to still have a glass or two of wine and if I had pre pumped milk I'd offer it to her. If not I'd feed as normal. She's 18 months now and all healthy sooo yeah aha. Don't let them make you feel guilty for wanting a few glasses of wine!!
You deserve a wine down if needed xx

I’ve never pumped and dumped, pregnant with my third! Breastfed both my others for almost a year, absolutely no problems with weight gain or anything. My partner would actually bring me up a wine when I would be doing bed time in the newborn stages. I also came home and had a glass of wine after we left the hospital having my second so 🤷♀️ safe to hold, safe to feed
