Weaning off Bottles @ 14m?

My doctor told me at my Baby’s 1y appt that he should be off bottles and only on sippy cups by 14 months. My baby happily drinks anything but milk from a sippy or straw cup, but will only drink milk from his bottles. Unfortunately we use bottles to get him to sleep too.

Anyone know why they need to be off bottles at 14 months? Also any way to get him off bottles / sleeping with a bottle in his mouth besides a drastic cold turkey break? TYIA!!

I’m in the same boat!! I talked to so many other moms (older and same age) who said the bottle before bed is totally fine and normal. My son won’t drink milk either from a sippy cup and bottle only. We just now give his bottle 30 min before bed & then we brush his teeth after. Just to get him out of the habit thinking he needs to drink his bottle to go to bed.

I think the reason for not having the bottles is because they can damage their teeth it’s not that they can’t have the milk I think it’s just the shape of the bottle teats which is why a sippy or straw cup is best.
Could you buy a brand new one and make that the new milk cup?

I would do as above and buy a brand new cup, tell him that's the new milk cup, and stop offering the choice of bottles. Or if there are multiple bottles during the day, start with using the new cup during one of them, then the rest as bottles (night time one should probably be last, as that's the comfort one). It's a bit odd your ped said simply cups - those aren't really that much better for teeth, nowadays it's recommended to use straw cups or regular open-top cups.

You could try a munchkin 360 - we've found those to be great for learning how to drink, and they use the proper oral muscles for good development and avoid the teeth issue. They also restrict the flow of liquid somewhat, which makes the adjustment easier.

Whatever you do, try to at least move the milk at night to before teeth-brushing - milk can pool overnight in the mouth, and lead to early dental decay.

I got both my babies off bottles around 13 months - my first we switched bottle to before bed (in kitchen) around 9 months then we'd just rock him or put down drowsy. He drank from his 360 cup from around 7ish months. So once he was one, we just put cown milk in the 360

My 2nd was still waking in night at 12 months. We used a bottle with only water in to get him back off. Around 10 months we did formula bottle downstairs with him. He also used his 360 with water from about 8 months i think. So at 13 months , we put cows milk in the 360 in kitchen and he had it there. And he would need a rock and go down drowsy. He stopped waking in night at all as soon as he went onto cows milk.

With both, we make it like ohh you're such a big boy with milk in your cup ! So they wrre excited

I wanted them off milk before bed asap as I didnt want milk sitting on teeth. I have really bad teeth amd gums and i heard kids inherit that from their mum

I know not evwryobe's kids are the same but that's what worked for ours

My pediatrician told me that if my daughter wants a bottle to just give her one. I feel like babies are so used to taking a bottle at night so trying to transition them to a different cup right after they turn one. It's just not going to work for a certain babies.

Yes, my daughter will drink milk out of different cups but when it's time for her to go to bed, she's going to want her milk in a bottle.

Honestly, I feel like just keep doing what you're doing whenever it's the right time for you to wean him off of the bottle, then you will find the right time to do so.

Baby seats for trolleys, high chairs etc.

Has anyone got one of these from a brand they recommend? Not sure if Coco seat is a UK brand or what it's like as a company?

Thanks in advance!

Nappy leaks at night—what brands or tips work?

My 12 week old uses Aldi Mamia size 3 nappies during the day with no problems, but at night both Mamia and Pampers Premium Protection size 3 have leaked after a few hours. Has anyone got tips for nighttime leaks or recommendations for other brands or strategies?

Sleep regression or upping daytime intake?

My baby is 15 weeks on Saturday. He used to sleep 9ish-6am with only 1 wake for a feed. He’s now ready for bed at 7/7:30 and sleeping until 7am but waking for 3 feeds! He had dropped to 6 5oz bottle but has now added in an extra one at 11pm. I’ve tried him with some 6oz bottles in the day but he struggled with them. What’s going on? Do I need to ride it out or try and up his daytime intake?

Formula advice

I was just curious if anyone has switched formulas. My 12 week old baby has been on aptamil 1 since birth but due to crap mat pay and the prices of formula nowadays I was wondering if anyone can advise if they switched and (or) if they've used aptamil and changed; which brand did they switch to. Thanks mummas
