Newborn Feeding on the Go: Tips, Essentials and Recommendations

Hi mums! 😊

I have a 3 weeks old newborn and would love your tips on feeding when out and about for 3–4 hours, especially on public transport.

I’m mixed-feeding, so what do you recommend for carrying breast milk or formula safely?

Any must-have products, bags or essentials you’ve found useful? Please share where you bought them, with links if possible.

I’d love to hear what’s worked for you in real life. Thank you! ❤️

Hellooo, I have a 4 week old and I normally do a breastfeed just before I leave the house. Then around 2hrs later when she wants her next feed I'll give formula to last her a bit longer then feed as normal when I get home. If you're pumping then try and pump while you're out (I use the Mommed s21 portable pumps) to keep my milk flowing and will offer this first then top up with formula (if I get an Oz or 2 I'll give her that and 1 Oz of formula).

It just depends on if you have the time to pump- if not then just formula is fine. I dont like breastfeeding in public but sometimes if I need to breastfeed then I'll go to one of those breastfeeding rooms or feed from the car.

I hope that helps!! Xx

If you BF a nursing cover always helps. This one has a little band around so it doesnt fall on little ones face. I found it helpful with my first when I was getting used to feeding while out and about. X

I use this little cooler bag for my breastmilk, have found it’s brilliant and keeps it cold for hours! I tend to take 2 pouches with me and works great, also enough room to add a pouch if I pump whilst out too. My little one will drink while it’s cold though so may be a problem if you need to warm it up x

If you’re breast feeding the easiest faff free method is breast feeding on the go. Absolutely no equipment needed. When I was combo feeding my eldest, I used to take pre made formula out. It works out more expensive than powder, but as I was combo feeding and not using for every feed it was fine, and meant I didn’t need to worry about making up a bottle out.

Second what Kerry said! I EBF my first but this one is combi fed and I still choose to breastfeed when out and about, it's so much easier and don't have to pack all the additional things needed for bottles/formula.

Rigevidon & Breastfeeding

I’m 6 weeks PP and at my 6 week check was prescribed rigevidon but I’m exclusively breastfeeding and have just read that you shouldn’t take it while breastfeeding as it reduces your supply

Is this correct? The GP did ask how i was feeding my baby so was aware i was exclusively BF, anyone else taken it while breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding

I am currently combi feeding but wanting to just go to formula, is it okay for me to completely stop breastfeeding or could I express a couple of time a day and just give him a bottle? I’m unsure on what’s the best way to go about it but I want to try and completely cut out putting him on the breast if possible if I can?

Sleep Training

My LO is approaching 4 months. I have been considering sleep training, any thoughts or advice? It’s just me and him and I have no support and I really want to get back to sleeping so I don’t spend the whole day tired.

8 week injections

My little girl had her 8 week check up and injections today, she’s spent most of the day asleep but when she is awake she’s just screaming like she’s in pain 😭 it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see, is this normal?!

She’s had calpol and 3 bottles but didn’t drink a lot of them.

Transitioning from next to me crib to cot

My little girl is 6 months old and needing to move out of her next to me to a cot but she HATES the cot. Any tips or do we just have to wait it out until she gets used to it? She loves sleeping on her side and could hold on to the edge of the next to me but obviously can’t do that in a cot which I think is what’s causing her a lot of upset 🥺
