Talk to me about pumping colostrum in last weeks of pregnancy

Has anyone pumped in the last weeks of pregnancy? Did it induce labor? How often did you pump?

I actually tried this. I was 2 days over due...so I got very impatient. I pumped as much as I could and bagged it for later. It is hard to pump though because colostrum is much thicker then regular milk. You have to massage your breast and go back and forth between each breast. I barely would pump 2 oz and that is both...as far as getting labor started..it didn’t do a damn thing for me. I ended up having to be induced and this was my 4th child. I did use the milk that I pumped though...so no loss.

Wow such an interesting idea. I wonder why more ppl don’t recommend this to new moms. I was so stressed with nursing when my baby was born and couldn’t get enough colostrum out to satisfy him. Maybe I’ll do this next time for baby #2

It didn’t put me into labor and I did it A TON. Definitely save it in the freezer with syringes. I do feel like it helped me produce more colostrum once baby was here and made my milk come in faster. But maybe that was just because my body knew I had a baby hungry baby. Definitely worth a try. If you’re not high risk then give it a shot.

I didn’t do the colostrum pumping but the thing that put me into labor was my nail lady massaging my ankles. There are pressure points on the ankles they apparently induce labor lol, I started contractions 2 days after my pedicure and gave birth exactly a week after my pedicure. 2 days before my due date! Maybe it wasn’t what induced me but idk. I think it was! Just a suggestion!!

I tried it a few times around weeks 38 or 39. It didnt do anything for me. But my water broke naturally in the middle of the night at 40w3d, which meant I had to be in active labor by that evening in order to have the natural birth I wanted. My midwife recommended that I pump both sides for 10 mins at a time, as often as I could without becoming sore. It 1000% worked at speeding up my contractions.

So for me, it didn't work before labor, but it helped a lot DURING labor.

I hand pumped from about 37 weeks and took it to hospital with me in syringes. I’m glad I did because I was unwell just after birth and so had to lay flat for a number of hours and so couldn’t feed.

It is hard don’t expected to get much I found having a shower first helped and make sure I was relaxed.

I did this as I was advised by the midwife to do it as I wanted to avoid induction. My daughter came two weeks later (37+5), the Labour progressed very quickly and I ended up delivering in the middle of the road. Can’t say whether it was the expressing that did it or not though

Can anyone help me out on where to buy syringes to store it?
