Does anyone have thoughts on inducing labor? My doctor wants to induce me on my due date (tomorrow!). I didn’t ask why but now I’m curious since I’ve read that usually they induce you if:
a)You’re late
OR
b) You show complications
The only thing I can think of is that she thinks I’m ready?! She felt baby’s head last week and I had dilated enough for a membrane sweep. Still no baby though.
I’d love to hear other women’s experience and/or any insights on pitocin.

I had to be induced with both of mine. My first they started me on pitocin and broke my water a few hours later. With my second she broke my water first and then about 30 minutes later hooked me up to the pitocin. The second labor was better in my opinion. Both of my babies were too big which caused the need to induction. Had I of gone longer it would have caused complications for both me and the babies.

I had to be induced on both my girls at 37 weeks, the first time was horrific and induced labours are more painful than natural, second time was just as bad. But that being said there were women on the same ward with me who were overdue and induced, and they were in and out in 2 days so it all depends on the individual I think. If your doctor recommends it I would listen itll be for a good reason, either way good luck and you will be fine x x

My Dr has told me he will induce on my due date if bubs hasn’t made an appearance.
He said nothing good happens after the due date! Baby’s skull starts to form making it harder to deliver and placenta can start to die off :( they used to leave you up to 14 days but apparently now studies have shown this shouldn’t be done.

I was induced and I feel it made my labor go easier.... pitocin makes contractions alittle harder but it is so much easier

I had a bleed at 39w and was induced. Was given a sweep when Pessary was inserted which broke my water, which didn’t really progress me (4cm)
then hooked up to the drip
We ran into complications which resulted in an emergency section. As baby was back to back and her head stuck in my pelvis putting her into fetal distress with every contraction.
The induction was intense pain however I done it without drugs .. used gas and air a bit. It was definitely very sore but manageable given the reward at the end lol
I think if you go for induction just keep it in your mind that section is a good possibility...
My birth plan was No No No section And it’s just how it had to be.
Just keep that in your mind that it’s a possibility.
Ps you’ll do whatever it takes to get your baby here. Good luck x

I chose to be induced due to anxiety about labor/birth! It didn’t end up going very well (most of it was the hospital experience) I did end up having a c section and my doctor had told me before that induction can lead to a higher rate of sections.

I’ve been induced with first one horrible experience was in labour for 2 days never again . With second one I had sweeps with second sweep as soon as I walked out from gp my water broke so was helpful . Maybe have an other sweep on your due date and see how it goes did help me .

I had to be induced because I developed gestational diabetes. I had further complications (not due to the medication) and had to have an emergency c-section. However my Dr had said she would have induced me by my due date if I didn’t have g.d. because the placenta tends to die off after 40 weeks and endanger the baby.

I had my baby at 41 weeks she was born naturally and perfectly healthy, I had 2 membrane sweeps one at 39 weeks and one at 40 weeks. I spontaneously went into labour 🙂.
Due date is a rough estimate. If you and baby are healthy don’t feel pressured to be induced. A few more days shouldn’t do any harm 🥰

I was induced at 42 weeks. I was worried and nervous that it would make labour harder, longer etc but I can honestly say that it was a positive experience. I had my waters broken which didn’t hurt and unfortunately didn’t start my contractions... so I had the drip. Baby was born within a few hours and I can honestly say it wasn’t that bad. The last hour was intense but compared to my first labour which started naturally... this one was much quicker and easier. The midwifes were amazing. Good luck! Xx

Realistically doctors want to induce a mom who is perfectly healthy with zero complications in order to do things on thier time. Its more predictable and they can be in control. I personally feel that it's not giving you a fair chance to do it naturally. You have up to 42 weeks. But ultimately you have to follow your heart.

Just be realistic & realize the odds of you having a c section is Much higher with an induction. It ended up being ok.
If you really don't want one, I'd strongly urge you to wait if its not needed.
I was inducted & 41 wks & had a c section like 13 hrs later.

I was induced at 39+5 weeks . I was medically induced due to low fluids. It was a long process for me. I was only dilated to 1cm and 50% effaced . They started me on pills every 4 hours 6 doses. I went in on the 31st 3pm . It didn’t really work much I didn’t even dilated more and was only 60% effaced . They then started me on a foley bulb which hurt like a bitch . They had to remove some of the water because I was cramping really bad I almost screamed . They also started Pitocin along with it but I wasn’t getting crazy painful contractions . They started Pitocin slowly . They started both at 5pm April 1st and removed it April 2nd at 5am . My broke broke 3 hours later . I had her at 5:41pm April 2nd which also was my due date lol I had an epidural too and it’s a good thing I did because I was hemorrhaging . My placenta was still attached and they removed it in pieces 😅

Do you have any complications? And medical reason to be induced?
If not then i would wait it out a little longer.
I'm in the UK, i was induced at 42 weeks with my first and had an awful labour. Usually they don't like to let you go any further than 2 weeks over here.
With my 2nd i really didn't want another indiction and after consulting with the hospital and the midwife i was allowed to hold off slightly longer and went into labour myself. We did have a plan though, i had to see my midwife daily at our local surgery and they were only giving me 5 extra days, i went on my own on day 3. Xx

I was induced at 37+3 weeks with my son, I had GD from 28 weeks, and little man was a IUGR baby 2.2kg at birth. Waters broken at 9:45am and pitcocin started, little guy made his appearance at 12:04pm same day. I went from 0-247779362% in no time it was hell

I started writing this then realised I didn’t need to tell you everything and I wouldn’t want to scare you. But IF you don’t have to be inducted for a medical reason then I absolutely wouldn’t. So unnatural so seems more complications occur (lots with mine, too more interference) to the point I was adamant I was never having another baby. Until we got a surprise last summer and I was 3 months pregnant with my son! Best surprise ever, but I had an elective c section with him as I was petrified of giving birth naturally x

I was induced at 41+2 weeks (for big baby) and 38+6 weeks (with twins). Both times labor started with just cytotec. But with my first i needed pitocin the last few hours bc my water had been broken for 20 hrs. I would love to go into labor on my own!

I was induced. First birth ever. I did great, just her head was big so had issues pushing so they had to help

Seems every doctor has different philosophies on when to induce. My sister in law told me her OB was adamant about inducing on or near the due date, and warned me to ask my OB for how she handles induction. So, I asked early on - my OB will wait until 41 weeks, then monitor regularly and decide based on how things develop. So, could be your OB just prefers to induce on the due date, or it could be that you’re dilated enough she feels it’s time. I would ask.

I went in to be induced because I wasn’t dilated enough I end up with c section

I was induced and honestly would prefer it. I was just more prepared mentally and physically. Once I got pitocin i had only dilated 1 more cm. I arrived at 4. They broke my water and my son was born within an hour of that. My blood pressure was fluctuating so they recommended induction, but not to the point they were concerned, yet. But it could be an issue later. I was induced 5 days before my due date. Everyones body is different and every birth is too. Inducing sounds scary sometimes but it was a really wonderful experience for me. If you get induced I'm sure youll do great! I have no hard feelings against pitocin lol

No way. If there’s not a medical reason, don’t do it! I was induced with my 2nd and even though the experience was fine, I will never do it again.

Very little did I knw about induced lobor I ended up in emmeracy c section my first baby very traumatic and horrible.

I was induced with my first the day after my due date for no other reason then my son was just ready to come out lol he was in position for a couple weeks! When I went in on my due date I was 1 or 2 cm dilated so my dr asked if I wanted to have my son the next day lol so of course I said yes! I got induced at 7am got my water broken at 9am and the contractions got strong and very painful right away, 11 I got the epidural and then next thing I knew I was 10cm dilated and had no idea , I started to push at 12:15 and had my son at 12:47!

Not!

I did a bunch of research on this when I was pregnant and my provider started talking about induction. I found this article particularly helpful: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-inducing-labor-for-going-past-your-due-date/ It’s a bit of a long read but good info and might help you form some questions for your doc. There’s no right answer each mama is different. I decided to wait and went into spontaneous labor at 40+6.

I was induced with my first. It was horrendous. I honestly believe that i was not ready to have the baby and thats why it went so badly. Im overdue at the moment with my second and no complications. Midwife doesn’t like inducing if she doesn’t have to which is great but they says they don’t like to leave it over 12-14 days overdue. Im giving him chance to come on his own and will only be induced if I absolutely have to. If theres no reason for it, im not sure why they force it

A lot of other countries won't induce until 42 weeks. And I feel that if it isn't medically necessarily then I wouldn't do it.

I had to be induced with my second, the pitocin was horrible, if you can wait I would really advise doing so. Your little one will be here before you know it. Good luck!

I was induced the day after my due date, no reason other than I was done being pregnant. But I've also heard way too many horror stories of people going past their due date and something happening to the baby. I went in on a Saturday at 7am and my son wasn't born until sunday at almost 9pm. It was definitely a long experience but everything went perfect! I would definitely be induced again!

My doctor waits until im 1 week late to schedule an induction. Otherwise, id just give it the extra week to see if you go into labor naturally because there are risks with an induction so there should be a medical need or the risk of keeping baby in there longer are higher than the risks of the induction

I’m due today and had my checkup and my dr is letting me go to 41 weeks. I go in Tuesday night next week to start the ball rolling if it doesn’t happen naturally by then. I had a membrane sweep today and one at 39 weeks. Here’s hoping baby comes out on its own!!

My doctor recommended the same on my due date but there was no complications and I didn’t want to be induced. At 8 days past DD I had a stretch and sweep, but they booked me in to be induced on day 11. Lucky the S&S worked and had a natural birth on morning of day 11.
Everyone’s circumstances are different. 🤷♀️

A positive induction story .. i was induced with my last at 38 weeks for caution due to my liver playing up, but in all honesty it was a breeze, they were able to break my waters and then waited an hour to see if my body woul naturally get into a rhythm it didnt so they started potocin, and within around 5 hours our little girl was her safe and sound it definitely was intense at the end of it more intense than the first two natural labours the pain got a bit over the top in the last half hour which they say is expected when being induced... but honestly its an experience i would do again without hesitation if it was needed i was nervous at first because i had herd horror stories and how painful it was but i think the idea of that the end was insight was what i was focused on.. and those last 4 weeks of pregnancy drag on and on.. xx

I was induced at 40 weeks one day and I had a really great experience! Gave birth in less then a day :)

May it have to do with capacity in the hospital in these weird times we live in? Perhaps there’s capacity now that may not be there a week from now? Definitely talk to doc before going along with their plan! Inducing is going from 0-100, very steep pain curve, not the slow build up most experience on their own. You have to know their reasons before making the decision.

I got induced on 4/1 at 38.6 because of gestational hypertension. Thanks to corona it was about the furthest from my “natural unmedicated” birth plan I wanted. I ended up starting with misoprostal and a folly balloon and going to pitocin and an epidural. I ended up delivering on 4/3 and he’s (loud and exhausting haha) but perfect and healthy and so am I. Overall it was way less traumatic than I expected. I would do it again if it meant the same outcome. 🤷🏼♀️

It usually means a longer labor which means more time in L&D and more risk for complications. I’d only do it if you need it for medical reasons

Just be very patient is was a long 15 hours In labor for me

I was induced and was very long and the balloon was the worst part. If I had to obviously I’d do it again but insist on no balloon
