Joining to learn

Hi, I've joined this group to educate myself more but also to learn how to teach my daughter (8 weeks) from a young age about inclusivity and anti-racism. I'm half Arab (Egyptian) and when I lived in the middle East I was subjected to racism for being half English, then when we moved to the UK I was subjected to it for being half Arab. I've never felt like anywhere is my home so it hurts when I see others suffering, suffering much more than I could ever possibly imagine people would, in their own homes. I have recently started to become aware that shamefully and unconsciously I changed my appearance (bright hair colour), the way I speak and the way I behave to hide the fact I am half Arab because I was so tired of the racist abuse. I was even sometimes subject to racism from my own mother (British)! I hope we can raise the next generation to be thoughtful, beautiful, loving, supportive human beings who will always do the right thing and make black lives matter.

Hi. The best way we can all get forward it to teach your daughter to love both side English and African said. I say Africa, because some people don’t think Egyptians are African. As long as you can teach her and yourself to see colour as a positive. Most kids today they are open minded when it comes to colour, it’s only when an adult Instill fear and hate them that makes them change. For you wanting to learn now mean your daughter is already going to be just fine

I’m so sorry you’ve been made to feel this way. It must be so confusing and hurtful ♥️
