When did you start going back to the gym?

I am 3 weeks postpartum with my second and want to start working out again. The only thing holding me back is that I don’t want to leave him at the gyms daycare. I bring my son out in public, but I don’t let strangers get too close to me. For all the crazy fitness addicted moms did you wait? I know that I could do stay at home work outs and walk outside, but I’ll be honest I am not going to do that. Before baby life I was a fitness freak and when I work out I like to go to the gym.

If your doctor cleared you to workout at 3 weeks and you want to bring your baby you could try running with the baby if you have a running stroller, also Mama and Me classes are a good way to workout with your baby and not have to use their daycare. I also started like a mini he gym in one of my guest rooms at my house. I use that room when it’s baby and daddy time, and I get a great workout in 💛

Be careful with the jogging strollers. They are not designed to run with the car seat locked in and not recommend until baby can hold their head up on there own. That was my plan until I started researching it.

Good to know! I see ladies doing that a lot. I'll check into that.

I was cleared at 2 weeks. I am a huge fitness freak, worked out/ran throughout my entire pregnancy (even did a half marathon about 1/2 way through lol). I slowly started back to gym at 2 weeks PP. My husband would watch the baby while I went. She is now 3 months, but I still am too apprehensive to leave her with a daycare, but I found a gym that lets me take her with me. So I go for open gym during her nap (she sleeps in the stroller) and then when my husband and I go to the group workout, we take her with us and trade off holding her or leave her in her seat (if she’s sleeping). Maybe explore gyms in your area and see what your options are! I was surprised they let us take her in the gym like that but she doesn’t seem to mind!

Two and. A half weeks per docs okay. Resumed regular workout with weights

I used to work out 5 days a week before baby. Now I go every other day on weekdays. I started walking with baby when she was 2 months and started going the gym at 3 months. In the morning before my wife goes to work I squeeze in 30 mins of cardio. And of course, on the weekend I can spend more time (1.5 hrs). I’m still apprehensive about the gym daycare. But I have been thinking about it more and more as I want to get back into my old weight training regime. My little bug is now almost 9 months :-)

That is how I am. I didn’t start working out with my first until he was older than a year and was comfortable leaving him at the gym daycare. For me it’s about my sons wellbeing before fitness.and too nervous with gym daycare for my little one.

I started by doing 20 min workout videos at home! It’s pretty amazing what you can find on YouTube that is post partum friendly but still gets the blood pumping.

I have yet to get back to a regular work out routine and my baby is almost 8 months. I went back at 3m pp and I had a c section. Scheduling is the hardest part for me. My bf was working 6a-6p. We would have dinner and then he would be falling asleep. Now he’s working overnights and sleeping during the day. I will sometimes ask my aunt or grandma to watch my girl for a couple hours so I can go to the gym.

I understand scheduling too. Sometimes I want to just go when my husbands home, but then I won’t ever see him

Never gymed before baby but started when she was three months and I love it!

I went back when my doctor told me it was okay at my 6 week check up. Prior to 6 weeks, I went on walks and ate healthy.

You should be cleared by your doctor first, unless they are already saying that it is ok. You need to be careful of prolapse.

I’m cleared!

So I started doing at home workout videos I’d been doing for years before (Jillian Michaels, anyone?!) once I was cleared at 6 weeks. However, I would intermittently experience pain with certain movements so I have stopped! Anyone else? I was quite active prior to and during my pregnancy but I definitely don’t feel fully healed yet. Anyone with experience, please weigh in!

I went back to gym about 10 weeks post partum due to my c section and my body took awhile to recover but I could not bring my little one with me so I luckily had a friend that watched her for an hour. I have heard good things though about gym daycare. Maybe try one day for 30 minutes and see how that goes. All trial and error.

I’ve brought my oldest to the gym daycare, I just don’t want to bring my newborn in there yet.

Totally understand that . Or try working out at home:)

Never went to the gym before but after I had my last baby I gained more weight then I did with my other 2 and decided to go do something!! My little girl was 5 months old when I started... currently doing CrossFit 5 times a week and I love it!!

Started walking the first month and started back at the gym 3 months pp- feels so good to get back into it 😅

I started working out from home around 12 weeks postpartum. Doing 30 minutes every day during nap.

I was very very very lucky with a home gym. I started going 4 weeks postpartum. I would feed baba, take him on a walk, and he would nap the entire time. I was even aw to shower (MOM WIN!!!!!!😱). Good luck!!! I was a huge fitness freak too! Just listen to your body. One thing I noticed was my core was SUPER weak and awkward feeling. Planking was a huge focus.

I started walking straight away and exercising properly after my 6 week check by the doctor and my osteo

Thank you everyone for your input! I hate running, but I am going to try it this year with “Run the Year.” It will be my first year doing this. If anyone wants to walk/jog with their kids with me. Let me know. If you want to sign up and be on my team the link is below, but that is not mandatory to walk/run with me. You’ll just listen to me track it haha https://go.referralcandy.com/share/8NKXXZZ

Please try to be careful with your return to the gym. I went back to doing light weights a few weeks after birth (only what I was doing during pregnancy as per hospital guidance and no impact activities like running or jumping) which was fine. But after my 6 week doctor check I asked if I could return to running and the doctor said yes. After a week of activity I had prolapse. So please learn from my mistakes and ease back into it and get a physio to give the ok after first checking your pelvic floor muscles.

Absolutely! What Alex said - check with a physio there’s so much they can help with and support you to prevent things!

Oh no! I hope your PFPT is helping with better strategies

I worked out my whole pregnancy and I tried getting back into right at the 6 week mark. My body was NOT ready. My son still wasn’t sleeping well and I feel like it caused more harm than good. I ended up just doing yoga. Building some strength but it was high intensity. Every body’s needs are different🤗❤️

I worked out at home for the first 12 weeks and then went when my husband or our sitter was home. I actually lost most of my baby weight with walking eating right and at home workout programs. The gym was just to get to that next level again! You’ve got it!

I waited far too long to get back into it the earlier the better not just for your health but your mental state. Find a gym with a crèche and get going 2 to 3 times per week don’t over commit yourself

As soon as I was cleared! I found out as soon as you stop bleeding you can. Just take baby in their infant carseat and keep right next to you,no different then the muscle heads that carry duffles and crap.

Be patient! I was back to working out when my first was 6months & now with my second she is almost a year & I have yet to break a sweat! Tough due to nursing and having two. You will find how it can work for you. Jogging stroller? I know that works for a lot of moms.

8 weeks is when my gym daycare takes newborns. (They get their shots at 6 weeks if u want them too) good enough. For me i have an older child so i trust the ladies there(being going there awhile)

I started going to the gym after 5 weeks

6weeks is the point you can start to exercise but its should still be light exercise no HITT training or weights. Not until 3-6 months after birth should you be going to a gym. A lot of muscles in the abdomen need a long time to recover after birth. Once you start the gym you can have the stroller next to you as long as it isn’t blocking anything and you kid is well behaved. Give them some good one on one attention before going to the gym and it can help them be okay while you are there not to have you’re full attention for a bit and just check in with them after each set.

3 months old as soon as the daycare at gym would take him

Never been to a gym in my life so never 😂

9weeks PP from my c section and I still haven’t yet

The second I hit 3 weeks but I would try to go on little walks all the time before that!

I ordered myself a treadmill

Slowly started exercising after I was cleared by my doctor at 6 weeks PP. I do leisure walks with bub in a carrier, jog in place or around the house and practice calorie counting. I've found it very effective. Lost weight within 1 month.

4 weeks pp from c section , but I felt ready and recovered really quickly x

At 7 weeks postpartum

3 months postpartum as I needed to heal from a 3rd tear, otherwise I would have returned sooner.
