Morning everyone. The last couple days I’ve had the worst cystitis, not sure if it’s been brought on by pregnancy as I’ve not had it for ages. Anyway it’s so bad today I’m going to have to ring doctors and wait for a callback, but was just wondering if anyone else has had it and been advised what to take. Most over counter powders etc are saying either do not take or consult GP first. I also wondered whether antibiotics are safe as I know a full blown UTI or kidney infection can be dangerous. I’m 7+4. Thanks ❤️

I had a kidney infection last week because I wasn't keeping any fluids down and they prescribed antibiotics. I'm almost positive this will be what they do for you!!

I have monthly kidney infections and am prescribed antibiotics every time - there are plenty of pregnancy-safe antibiotics, so please don't worry and just make sure to mention to your GP that you're pregnant (they don't always have it on file) and they'll sort you right out ❤️
Mention that you're pregnant to the receptionist too - they'll bump you up the waiting list!

I had uti last week was pregnant in 7 weeks and was first time as well and was peeing pure blood. Go to A &E today and they will sort it out for u. Take panadol for the pain untill they see u today

Thanks all really helpful ❣️

I’m 11 weeks now and had a UTI a few weeks ago and was prescribed a weeks course of Nitrofurantoin which is safe in pregnant. I’ve got another UTI now so going to pick my prescription up. Don’t suffer and get onto the doctors ASAP, it really does make you feel so shitty. Xx

Hi! Lifetime sufferer of cystitis/UTIs here. They are the worst. Half a lemon squeezed into half a pint of water every half an hour for three hours should massively help the symptoms. Even though lemon appears acidic it is metabolised by the body as alkaline and it should neutralise everything in your bladder, which helps with the burning and also stops bacteria multiplying as much. Cut our sugary foods and things like bacon and cheese for a while as they are very acid inducing. And no caffeine at all. Hot water bottle between your legs kind of wedged a bit helps to distract from the pain.
In terms of preventing more of them make sure you’re drinking regularly throughout the day (min of 2L) and when you think you’ve finished emptying your bladder lean forward and try again.
If you weren’t pregnant I would also recommend d-mannose as it’s incredible. Something for anyone to look into if they suffer outside of pregnancy.
Good luck, they are the absolute worst things xxx
