Is parenting in 2026 harder than it was in 1926?
Modern parenthood can feel a bit like doing three jobs at once, on broken sleep, without the “village” of support and infrastructure that parents once had around them.
We’ve said goodbye to the traditional idea of a village, grandparents nearby, neighbors popping in, someone holding the baby while you eat something with two hands.
And don’t get us wrong, we’ve gained so many things along the way, too (flexible careers, technology, Ms. Rachel).
But we’ve found ourselves in a place where we’re raising babies far from family, juggling work and childcare, carrying the household mental load, and trying to make the “right” decisions in a world where every decision somehow feels loaded.
So no, you’re not imagining it.
Parenthood really does feel heavier for a lot of us right now.
