Teething. It sounds so simple, but if you’re in the thick of it, you know - there’s drool, there’s fussing, and sometimes there’s just no sleep.

So, what actually helps with teething?

We’ve pulled together tried-and-true teething tips from trusted sources (hello, Peanut mamas) to help you ease baby’s discomfort and keep your sanity.

Signs baby is teething

Wondering if those new cries, red cheeks, or midnight wakeups are tooth-related? Teething symptoms can start even before the first tooth appears.

Here’s what to look out for:

  • Sore, red gums
  • Lots (and we mean lots) of dribbling
  • Red or flushed cheeks
  • Chewing on everything in sight
  • A slightly raised temperature
  • Night waking or general fussiness

Not every baby shows all the signs.

Some breeze through it.

Others… not so much.

What helps with teething pain?

There’s no magic fix, but a few gentle remedies can bring real comfort.

These are some of our favourite go-tos, straight from the wisdom of the Peanut community:

1. Give them something to chew

Soft rubber teething rings, silicone rings, or even a chilled (clean) washcloth can help soothe tender gums.

2. Cool it down

Cool, not frozen, teething rings can be especially comforting. Just pop one in the fridge for a bit before offering it up.

3. Soothe on the go

Out and about? Ashton & Parsons Teething Gel is a smart addition to your baby bag. It features a soft brush applicator (the only one like it on the market) that gently massages baby’s gums, without you needing to get hands-on. The banana-flavoured gel forms a protective film to help ease soreness and redness.

✅ Suitable from 3+ months

✅ Sugar, alcohol, lactose & anaesthetic free

✅ Hygienic, no-touch application

4. Try a traditional remedy

Looking for something herbal? Ashton & Parsons Teething Powders are a traditional remedy trusted by parents for over 150 years. They contain tincture of matricaria (from chamomile) to support the relief of teething pain, and come in easy-to-carry sachets.

  • Used for generations
  • Suitable from 3+ months
  • Handy for home or travel

5. Comfort, distraction, and cuddles

Sometimes the best pain relief is a familiar cuddle, a favourite song, or a little extra play. Even just a change of scenery can help.

What to keep in mind

Once that first tooth appears, it’s time to start brushing with a soft baby toothbrush and a rice-grain-sized smear of toothpaste.

And if baby’s teething symptoms seem severe - high fever, lots of vomiting, or signs of an ear infection, it’s worth checking in with your GP or health visitor.

What to pack for teething days

If you’re prepping your baby essentials kit or heading out with a teething little one, here’s what’s worth bringing along:

Teething doesn’t last forever - even if it feels like it in the moment.

You’ve got this.
