hi mamas! I struggled with hbp during pregnancy and had little to no knowledge how to manage it. Wanted to share some info I have learned so far and for us to communicate little more on this topic :)

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

Home BP readings - good or bad?

I have been in and out of hospital for the last week trying to get my BP under control. Now on labetamol 200mg and nifedepine 30mg, both twice a day. Now being monitored twice a week, last midwife appointment on Tuesday was good. I’ve been taking my BP at home myself and often all good, but randomly have had a few high readings (above 140/90 but not above 160/110). I’m not sure I’m doing the cuff correctly and just wondering if I’m making my BP worse by increasing anxiety every time I monitor / monitoring too frequently.

I’m paranoid that I’m going to have a stroke or something if high BP is missed 😫 but I also don’t want to overreact and send myself back into hospital for no reason….

Blood pressure

Any advice on blood pressure in pregnancy and outcomes? 26 weeks pregnant. My blood pressure has been sitting around 140/66 at my midwife appointment and at home my readings often go to 150. My midwives don’t seem very concerned regarding it but for me this is high as I’ve always had low bp

White coat hypertension syndrome

Every time I go into a clinical ie (doctors, hospital appointments) situation my blood pressure skyrockets.. obviously this doesn’t help when needing my obs doing in a maternity appointment. My readings are 160/98 at hospital and at home are 105/71.. I’ve tried to explain to my doctor and cardiologist that I’m sh*t scared of the bp machine which is why I get so scared when they do the readings. But I can tell that I’m not listened to. I also do my readings morning and night at home and write them down and have to take them with me as evidence. It’s literally being inside a doctors or hospital environment that stresses me out. Anyone else similar?

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

Newborn bubble ruined with high BP

I had high BP during pregnancy from 32 weeks and it appeared to be managed with medication. I’ve now had my son a week ago and since have ended up in hospital twice with rising BP. The medication no longer seems to be working and I feel so out of control in my body. My baby is so happy and settled but the stress of this is really upsetting me and taking me away from my husband and oldest daughter. Has this happened to anyone else after birth? Were they able to stabilise your BP and how long did it take?

High blood pressure

Hi ladies

Can anyone please help settle my nerves because currently I’m a bit of a nervous wreck and struggling to sleep because of the worrying.

I’m 29 weeks today and pregnant with my second baby. My first pregnancy I had no problems with my blood pressure, I have also never had problems with my blood pressure when not pregnant. I have had no problems this pregnancy either until 2 days ago when I went to my consultant appoitment (28+5) and my blood pressure was 135/80 and I have +1 protein in my wee (my usual blood pressure at midwife apps has been around 120/78 ish).

They sent my urine off to the lab, it came back as all fine so that wasn’t an issue but I wasn’t happy with the blood pressure and know that things like this can lead to pre eclampsia which is in fact my biggest fear.

I coincidently had a growth scan yesterday At the hospital so I decided to ring the day assessment unit and just ask that before my scan it I could come in and have my urine & blood pressure tested because I was concerned about the results I had the day before, they said it’s fine so I went in and had both done.

When I got to the hospital there was no longer any protein in my wee however my blood pressure was still high (originally about 145/80 and then came down to about 139/80) she told me to go for my scan and then come back as it could just be because I was quite anxious.

I went to the scan; everything was perfect. Baby was growing exactly as she should be for the gestation, flow from placenta was good, all looked well and healthy.

I then when back to the midwives and they redone my blood pressure a few times, again, still high. Started at about 141/ something and eventually come down the 138/ something I think was the final reading.

They decided to take my bloods to test me for what they said was pre eclampsia although they did say they wasn’t concerned as I had no protein in my wee, no swelling etc but it’s good to get it checked and tick it off the list. The blood test came back completely normal.

They let me go home and said nothing more about it, had no concerns and said right now there is nothing to worry about.

I don’t have a midwife appointment until next Friday but now live in fear of going because I’m scared of the results of the blood pressure machine and fear that it’s going to be high always and I’ll be sent to triage every single time etc

Does the above sound concerning to you or would you just try to relax? The midwives at the hospital told me to relax and enjoy my pregnancy but I’m finding it super hard 😢
