Also known as obstetric cholestasis, ICP is a liver disorder that occurs in pregnancy. With ICP, liver function is impaired, causing a digestive fluid called bile to build up in the liver and blood. Elevated bile acids in the blood trigger intense itching in the expectant mother and can cause still birth.
