Cholestasis

Don’t ignore the itch! This group is for women with ICP/OC/Cholestasis…to not go through it alone and for advice and remedies. Also known as obstetric cholestasis, ICP is a liver disorder that occurs in pregnancy. With ICP, liver function is impaired, causing a digestive fluid called bile to build up in the liver and blood. Elevated bile acids in the blood trigger intense itching in the expectant mother and can cause still birth.

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

Waiting to talk to the doctor about results

I started feeling a weird itchiness in my toes and hands recently and did some research (Tik tok scrolling) and came across some videos about cholestasis. I also noticed some oily stools which all indicate cholestasis however I am only 22 weeks. I told my doctor and she told me is a rare condition (although I’ve seen so much content of women talking about it, it hardly seems rare. However she did listen to me and ordered the bloodwork/urinalysis. I got my quest results last night and started looking through them and it appears my bile acid levels are elevated at 10.6 (it says out of range with 6.8 being the threshold). It also indicates my Chenodeoxycholic Acid is high as well at 6.5 (with normal range being 3.1). I’m so nervous that I’m still in the second trimester and I’m already seeing this elevation. I haven’t spoken to my doctor yet I’m waiting for the office to open. But I’m really spiraling and feeling worrried/anxious. I was planning a natural unmedicated birth and I feel like that might need to change now 😭😭

Cholestasis survey

Hi mamas! I am studying to become an holistic reproductive practitioner with focus on reflexology, doula and reiki specifically for pre and postpartum and as an assignment I have to talk and interview someone who has/had cholestasis. Is there anybody willing to share their story? I would really appreciate any help to understand better this difficult condition Thanks in advance 🙏

Induced labor

Positive induction stories?

My levels have shot up so they’re now saying I need to deliver her by next Thursday before hitting 39 weeks.

They’re talking about sweeps and being induced. I’m scared at the thought of being induced due to so many negative stories I’ve heard. Anyone had a positive experience and what form of induction you had? I’ve seen there’s two types pessary and balloon? (First born was 3 days early, spontaneous and quick. Didn’t have IPC for that pregnancy)

Second pregnancy

Has anyone had OC the second time? I had it with my first but not really sure what the chances of having it again are?

ICP Induction

Just been diagnosed with ICP, not sure of my levels yet as I haven’t seen the DR but midwife suggested induction about 38 weeks. Has anyone refused induction with ICP?
