Gender Disappointment (GD) Support

A lot of us feel a bit lost, isolated, alone, and even guilty for feeling it, but that doesn’t make it any less real or any less common: gender disappointment. Whether you’re a mom to four boys begging for her little girl, or a first time mom who thought from the bottom of her heart that she was having that little boy, finding out your child’s gender can be shell shocking. You feel lots of feelings that can be tough, but being there and understanding one another is most important. Any harassment, bullying, or anything short of supportive (unless otherwise asked for, such as criticism, will be moderated and removed with a ban following).

Drowning in disappointment

I just realized that having a gender reveal was a terrible idea. I have only brothers. I was hoping so much for a girl and I absolutely have no interest in having a boy. My boyfriend’s dad and sister kept insisting it was a boy and it really kept getting under my skin. Then when we put the knife in the cake and it came out boy, they started yelling “I told you it was a boy!! I knew it, I told you so!” And I shut down. I left the table. No smiles, only irritation. My boyfriend told me I ruined the video and made it useless because I didn’t even smile. They kept telling me “the next will be a girl.” Honestly we can barely afford this one. Plus my health has severely deteriorated so I know I will never have another child. I came home and I cried in a closet. I fell asleep in the floor. In time I know I’ll get there, I have to. But honestly I even told my mom I don’t want this. I wanted a child I could do things that I never did with like getting my nails done. Someone to dress up with and have little matching outfits 😞 And now all I can see is doing everything alone still because I have no interest in boy activities.

Does this feeling go away? I just keep thinking I’m already a failure because I don’t want this. I even dislike every single name I’ve looked at. The only one that I do like, my boyfriend doesn’t like…

no one around me gets it and they all just keep judging me which make me feel even worse.

Still disappointed..

Guys, I was really hoping that I would “get over it”… but I’m still really bummed that I’m having a boy… i think all the right thoughts, but in my heart I’m just so sad that I’m not giving my baby girl a sister. I’m jealous of people i hear of having girls. I’m just….not “over it” yet… when does it get better??

Third Boy

Nub theory says third boy. I’m crying 😭 My midwife asked if I’m wanting a boy or girl this time and I was honest and said “a girl, because in all honesty do you know any mum that dreams of having 3 boys?”

My mum had 5 girls before she had a boy. Looks like I’ll go the same way but opposite gender 🙄

Also, queue the comments as soon as people see me with all boys. “Poor you.” “Your hands are full”. “You’ll have to try again”. “Maybe next time”.

Has anyone ever decided the gender disappointment was just too much to handle and terminated? I know that sounds crazy but I can’t stop thinking about it I just have to get it off my chest. Talk to me about it.

I have 3 of the same gender, boys, very active boys and then got pregnant with my miracle baby girl… but she passed away in the second trimester. Now I’m pregnant again and I just know it’s another boy and I literally can’t bare it you guys. Like I cannot take it again. It was completely unethical of me to get pregnant feeling this way. I wish more than anything in the world I could do IVF.

Gender selection

So I have 3 children of one gender and I'm desperate to have another child of the opposite gender. When I had my 3rd child I had a c section and my tubes were cut. I remember thinking during the whole birth, thank god I never have to go through that again. 3 and I'm done. Roll on 2 years and I have been given a large inheritance, enough to pay off my mortgage and meaning I could give up work and enjoy being a mum to my kids, nice car, nice holidays, easy life. But I want to go for gender selection IVF and my husband thinks I'm mad, that we should just enjoy the money with our kids and make good memories. But my heart is missing someone and I can't stop thinking about them. What would you do?
