Screaming after feeds

Hi everyone. My 8 wk old has suspected GERD (lots of spit up, pain, excess gas). He’s EBF and we’ve been on omeprazole for 5 weeks. I’ve also removed dairy from my diet (day 11) and we’re not seeing any reduction in his symptoms. He screams after every feed, clearly in pain - it can sometimes go on for hours. It’s truly awful. Things I’ve tried/ am already doing:

  • making sure he’s not still hungry by offering other boob (he never is)

  • burping frequently during and after feeds

  • changing positions (feeding upright) to limit air intake

  • tongue tie has been corrected

  • we’ve seen a baby osteo to remove tension in his jaw

Any one else going through this and have any words of wisdom? I dread every feed and am too scared to feed him in public.

Night feedings

How do you handle night feedings with a reflux baby? I breastfeed her a few times at night, she’ll fall asleep for a few minutes when she’s done eating. I’ll put her to bed but then she’ll wake up screaming, arching her back and ultimately puking. Are we keeping them up longer after they’re done feeding?

Starting Solids with GERD

Did anyone start weaning their babies? I started a few days ago, and I think this is going to be challenging. Does anyone have any tips? With my firstborn, it was so easy, but she didn't have GERD.

Gerd?

My baby is 5.5 months old and is showing all of the signs and symptoms of GERD. We’ve tried everything from the doctors including gaviscon, carobel and omeprazole all of which didn’t work. We’ve also tried infacol/gripe water which made it worse.

I’m basically at my wits end. The doctors just tell me that if nothing is working then just to let it naturally fade out, but she’s nearly 6 months old and it hasn’t got any better.

For context :

  • Silent reflux since birth, even hours after her feed she still brings some up
  • very fussy on her bottle, spits it out every oz and then barely drinks the rest of it without being really fussy or irritable
  • always a high pitch wheezing when she’s asleep
  • sometimes gags or chokes when feeding
  • very slow in gaining weight (she’s only 12lb 11oz at nearly 6 months)

I’ve spent so much money already trying to establish what’s going on, and I fear that me paying a further £200 for an oral assessment will come back saying nothing is wrong. (I know my babies health is priceless but I’m on SMP and have spent hundreds already trying to figure out the source) if I get an oral assessment done and it shows nothing, do I still pay full price?

My partner, my babies dad had GERD as a child and had to have an operation to correct it. Could it be hereditary?

I’m just at a loss and don’t know what else to do, my GP says we’ve tried everything 😞
