Hey ya’ll my name is Azaria but you can call me Z. I’m West Indian but my partner is East Asian (primarily Chinese) does anyone speak Cantonese or know of any resources for Cantonese (it’s the majority language in his family’s providence and more similar to his family’s dialect than mandarin). I would also love to make friends with other Chinese/blended family’s pictures for proof😅

Learning Chinese when nobody in the family speaks Chinese

Hiya, my son is 6½ months, half Chinese, half Pakistani.

I cut off contact with his dad and the rest of his dad's side of the family. I'd go into detail but it's so long. Just to be clear there is no one speaking mandarin around him.

My own Mandarin is embarrassing. I can probably say single sentences to get my point across.

My question is, how do I teach my son mandarin when I don't really know it? Especially when the only Chinese speaking family members are not in contact with us?

If you have links to resources that can help him from now, that would be really helpful

My mixed kid! (Learning Mandarin)

Are there any mamas here who have kids learning chinese? I’d love to continue learning (I’m half chinese/English but not taught by dad) or practice with anyone who can speak or wants to learn. My kid is in her childcare setting and I want us to chat together in Chinese when she’s bigger!

Do you know any Chinese kids shows to help kids with mandarin or Cantonese?

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations on some children’s shows that are in Chinese. My daughter is half British and half Chinese. We speak to her in English at home since that’s what my husband speaks. My family will speak to her in Chinese, but she’s not exposed enough. I was thinking of enrolling her in Chinese school when she’s a little older, but I’ve had friends that went that still don’t really speak Chinese. I’m conflicted 🙁. Not sure what the best course of action is.
