My newborn is 5 weeks today!
What language do you prefer speaking in front of your baby ? Your mother tongue/first language or english ?

My daughter is almost 1 and we only speak punjabi with her. We know she will pick up English easily but our mother tongue will get left behind if we don't interact in it. All my friends groups do the same and all my extended family. Even the ones with far older kids haven't found its pushed their kids back as most seem to be excelling beyond their peers.

We speak English to our baby as that’s what we speak under our roof as we are an interracial household and don’t understand one another’s mother tongue. But my parents speak a little bit of Hindi to her when she visits them and my in-laws speak a little bit of Russian when she visits them.
