We found the nicknames came with time. Our little one was baby no name for a week! Then nicknames came shortly after we decided his full name

Thanks, we foolishly mentioned Penelope to my parents and mum keeps calling her “little Poppy” and dad keeps talking about “Penny”. So it feels weird like it’s not the same girl 😂 we aren’t actually aware of the gender but we have our possible boy name locked in so just floating our girl Option

So we didn’t know the gender either, I always loved the name Cecilia but I hated Ceci. When she was born it was still our favourite name so we went with it. I called her bub and poppet from birth (no idea where they came from 🤦🏻‍♀️😂), now she’s 17 months and my in-laws call her Cissy, we call her Cecilia and she calls herself Ceci! So essentially I think one name will just stick at birth and then other people and the baby itself will use what they like anyway.

I prefer penny, but sometimes nicknames just come! Our son is Riley and nicknames would be Ry or riles, but I call him Roo which sounds nothing like Riley 😂

I think nicknames just come about. My son is Noah but I often call him noodle or bear (don't know why). My niece is Leonorah and we call her Norah or NuNu (which is what she calls herself) and she calls my son Noey. I think unless you hate any of the shortened version, don't overthink it.

My baby is Elowyn. I hate Ellie and Ella since I know too many people with that name lol. I ask people to call her El or by her full name. Once you decide on a nickname, have everyone use it! I think Nelly is cute!

I like that you mention that you tell people your preferences. Often as FTM you need to find your voice and learn how to advocate for what you want!

my little girl is Penélope we all call her. pudding, gorgoues, princess, feeling but most of all i call her Nelly Nelly Noo xx

It'll just come!

Nicknames come with time. My little girls name is Aria but by like a month old I was calling her punky and I still do. I was calling her punkin and then i shortened it to punky

You'll probably have more than one! I like this name though because even if after baby grows up she can choose her own nickname and really take ownership of her name!

I’ve never heard of Penelope being shortened to Poppy tbh. I think penny would be more appropriate for a nickname, but I think it comes in time like others have said 😊 I call my baby all sorts of nicknames 😂

And then you can play her 'Penny & Me' by Hanson

Penelope would be Penny or Nelly, each are super lovely! Poppy is a name in its own right though. If you’re keen on poppy would you not just name her Poppy May?

My husband and I have different nicknames for our daughter and our family has a different one from the both of ours. Sometimes they just come to you once you are around your little one for long enough. But out of the three you chose, I like Poppy 😊

I like poppy sounds cute my dogs called penny 🤣

I think penny sounds nice My lil girl’s name is Avia and I call her Avy or mama

Trust me when I say you won’t know the nickname til they’re here. It’s happened to everyone I know lol my niece is Corinne and we wanted to call her cori. She arrived and weeks later she was “rin” or “rinny”. Named my baby Basil and wanted their nickname to be “Bay” but we call them “Bagel” lol so just be prepared. I like penny tho.

Thanks everyone 😊 I guess I’ll see what sticks when I meet the baby. I just love that she could have full range in her name (professionally, as a little old Grannie and as a teen). I’m mindful that childhood is 10% of her life and I have met adults who changed “childish” names for the workplace. I’ve never met a bad Penny (pun intended) and Penelope always sounded like a badass strong classical name. Let’s see ❤️

My daughters called Penelope, we have always called her ‘P’ which everyone else around us picked up. We didn’t like Nelly because of Nelly the Elephant 😂 her great-grandparents call her Penny though, but everyone else, it’s P lol. X

Aww and I just checked out your profile they’re only 10 days apart too! Love it 🥰

My daughter is Penelope and we call her P too! We don’t like penny or nelly or anything like that, tbh we don’t shorten it much but when we do it’s just P x

What about “P”?
