Following…I have a 5 year old on the spectrum who just has zero interest in the potty and used to smear as well, but he grew out of it thankfully. Keep up the good work Mamas, you’re doing fantastic! 😘❤️

My son is autistic and we are attempting potty training. I talk him through it a lot and just have him try every so often. Give him an ok great for trying and favorite treat for actually going. I also heard using a regular potty is easier as there is less confusion on where they have to go if you are not at home and don’t have the potty chair

Is she in underwear full time or diapers/pull ups? If in underwear just take her to the bathroom when you go, show her the pictures. And make going potty fun. Sing a song or play a game. My 3 year old goes pretty good on the potty with number 1. Still having a little trouble with #2 but it is a process. She hates going poo in her underwear so it is hit and miss.

So my younger brother is also on the spectrum and he didn't potty train till recently, he just turned 6 in February. Most times special needs kids take longer to potty train than Nerotypical children. You just kinda have to follow their lead with some things. They aren't always developmentally ready for certain things that their peers may be. I would look into cloth diapers, they have snaps that are harder for kids to undo. They also have Velcro or tie/pin ones, but those tend to be easier for kids to figure out.

I sing a silly potty song and avoid looking at them just in case they're embarrassed.
