West African baby boy name

What do you guys think of the name Hame? Pronunciation Hi-may. My husband is west African and Hame is his fathers name. This is our first baby and his first boy so it’s traditional to name the first boy after grandparents. His daughter is named Sumaya. No where near being named after grandparents. I don’t mind the name because I know how much my husbands father means to him. His dad died when he was really young and they were very close.

hame is a lovely name but in the UK i think you would get a lot of mispronunciations. i’m not sure where you’re based so might be different for you 😊

I think it would be very sweet, and once you know the pronunciation I think it would catch on easily! I think it’s very cute! But as important as tradition is so is you being happy! It could always be a middle name if you wanted to have the first name for yourself! And that’s not selfish at all!

I understand that feeling of wanting people to know it and understand. I know it’s not the same as having that special meaning just between your family, which is very sweet, but it is different. And you can always use Hame as his middle name to still honor his dad and then you can pick what you like as a first name. Or maybe his dads middle name is something you like better? At the end of the day as long as your happy with it is what matters bc their your little babies.

I like it! Good family link and it’s unusual and sounds nice.

I think it is unique and sounds really nice, would be a lovely way to honour your husband's father ♥️ I think a personal connection with the name gives it more meaning than the literal meaning of any other name 🥰

If you want options:
you could use a longer name and use it as a nn
or have Hame in the middle spot - and still use Hame as a nn
or use Himae/Hamae/Himay to make it look more similar to the pronunciation (but in my opinion this would not be necessary, Hame is a great name in itself♥️)
