Steak

Hi everyone need your opinions, I have really wanted a steak for months but I can only eat it medium. As a one off would it be bad to have a medium cooked steak as I am going out for dinner tonight. Need all of your truthful opinions as I’ve done everything by the book so far and I am wondering whether having it as a one off will effect baby? Thankyou in advance mammas 🤍

I personally think you’d be fine! As you say it’s just a one off and if it’s from a respectable restaurant there is minimal risk.

I’ll be honest I went for a roast the other day and the roast beef came pink. I ate it and me and baby are fine! Have the steak I’m sure you and baby will be ok, especially as you are eating it out so will be stored and cooked etc at exact temperatures xx

We are going to tgi Fridays I’m sure I’ll be fine I just needed someone else’s opinion as my boyfriend is apprehensive for me to have it 😂x

I think if it's from a place with a good reputation and hygiene rating it should be alright! I don't like steak but I've eaten sushi during my pregnancy from places I trust and tried before and didn't have any issues at all... These recommendations are mostly about minimising the risk of food poisoning, so I think it's really up to you personally what you feel comfortable with! ☺️

i think you won’t enjoy it as much as your cravings suggest because you will be uming and aring whether or not you should do it🤣 knowing my luck if i did it as a one off i’d end up getting food poising or something🤣

I am craving a big fat fillet steak! I have mine medium and have been told off the midwife not to eat uncooked meat for obvious reasons, I wm waiting till baby is here then going to have a bloody good one! Think if you have one you will be worrying throughout eating it xxx

I like rare steak so am avoiding it because of the bacteria, but cooked medium/medium well done you should be fine!x

I asked the midwife and she it was fine! Just not too bloody x

Im sure it’ll be okay. I literally been trying my best to eat it well done and have given up lmao so I’ve been eating it here and there like once every 3 weeks. I just eat it medium/ medium well instead of medium rare like I usually do.

Thankyou everyone 🤍

I think the main risk with undercooked meat is toxoplasmosis rather than food poisoning. If you trust the restaurant then it should be fine.

I’ve had a medium steak and baby is absolutely fine. So if you feel like it I’d say as a one off is fine x

I’ve had medium steak a couple of times in both my pregnancies with no issues. I’m told to eat more unprocessed red meat, so… Plus the risk from food in the UK is incredibly low, especially if it looks and smells fine and is well within the use by date.

I had one at the weekend - asked for it to be cooked just enough to not be pink and it was perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed it! X

I only eat rare steak and it’s my favourite food and not eating it has been the hardest thing in pregnancy😂 can’t wait to go miller and carter when he’s out!

I’ve eaten steak multiple times throughout my pregnancy and I eat mine medium rare. It’s quite rare to get toxoplasmosis and if it’s a decent restaurant/you’ve cooked it well yourself, I really wouldn’t worry!!

I have steak every week and runny eggs. It's my 5th pregnancy and we've all been fine

Positive stories please!

Hey! I’m 40 weeks pregnant with my first baby and all the way through pregnancy, and especially for the last few weeks I’ve felt really really anxious about how much my life is going to change.
My husband and I are obviously beyond excited and the pregnancy was fully planned, but all I ever get told by people are ‘jokes’ like, ‘that’s it now your life is over’ and ‘say goodbye to x, y and z’.
Also all I ever read on forums like this are the negative / hard bits.
Obviously I’m fully aware our life is going to change completely, but hearing nothing but negative things really takes its toll sometimes, and makes me worry that I’m not ready for this - being 40 weeks it’s making me panic about going into labour because that means that it’s the ‘end’ of my life.

So I guess I’d just like some positive thoughts and encouraging words about what’s to come rather than just negative 😇

Thanks guys!

Trying to survive third trimester

I’m 30+3, baby is head down and measuring in 94th percentile. I have another growth scan at 36 weeks. This kid is pressing so hard into my cervix, yet simultaneously keeping me from being able to breathe. I’m so nauseous and have slept like crap. How do we survive the last 8+ weeks of this?

Glucose tolerance test

I was due to have a GT test in a few weeks but it was cancelled about two weeks ago by the hospital as they’re happy with how my pregnancy is going and they’re not concerned — I had a call with a midwife today (one from the hospital that I’ve never seen or spoken to before) and she was being really pushing and kept telling me “well you’re at risk of having a stillbirth” because my bmi was over 30. Considering all those who are actually involved in my care aren’t concerned and were happy enough to cancel my upcoming appointment and scans, why did she feel like she had the right to try and scare me? What an arse. 🙄

Anyway, do I HAVE to do it? I never requested it in the first place and as I said, those involved in my care are happy with how things are going and baby’s growth etc.

Heads up about NIPT

I had my first OB appt for baby #2 last week. Am beyond excited!! With that being said my doctor gave me a heads up that sometimes the NIPT test isn’t always accurate for young moms (I’m 22). I didn’t do the NIPT test with my first so this is very new information to me.

Has anyone else’s doctor told you this? And if they did, was the gender part of your test still correct? We’re planning on announcing as soon as we find out the gender as I’m already starting to show, so I’m just really hoping that my age doesn’t mess with the results
