Peri menopausal, PCOS, or Endo???

I’ve seen SEVERAL gynecologist and no one can give me answers. Maybe you guys can steer me in a direction to finally find relief!
So for 1 year and 5 months I had continued bleeding, much heavier than a period. It’s to the point I have to have blood transfusions because my iron stays so low it effects my heart rhythm and oxygen. I’ve had MRI, CT scans, several ultrasounds, and all they will say is that I have a thickened uterine lining. I’ve taken THREE birth control pills a day for this entire time, and that is a months worth of birth control in a WEEK. The hormone surge is keeping me sick, I feel TERRIBLE with nausea, I’m so tired from the anemia and super high dose of hormones, I’ve lost 45 lbs unintentionally because I stay so nauseous (I have a running RX of Zofran and it barely helps)
I’ve begged for a hysterectomy, I’m 40, I have 4 children and I had my tubes tied ten years ago, so I’m totally at peace with giving up my uterus and alllll that. I want relief, any suggestions?

First of all, 40? I wouldn’t have guessed that, by your pictures I thought you were 26-29.
Secondly to start have you seen an endocrinologist?

- wow. Just what? And then wow again. Why the jiggins are they giving you so many BCPs??? That just sounds bonkers to me.

Look, I know things in the USA are very different to here in the UK so far as healthcare goes, but seriously, if this 'plan' of theirs isn't giving results now, and is making you feel awful, then I'd sack the lot of em, and if it's a hysterectomy you want, flipping go for it!

It's tricky for us to advise specifically cos it's not in our remit and we don't have the qualifications to do that - whatever the condition that is causing this, all those hormones from BCP are not a long-term solution. If you have a hysterectomy, then you should line up some Regulated Bio-identical HRT (not compounded or unregulated!) to start as soon as possible post-hysterectomy, and transdermal HRT is lowest risk.

My guess is that you're going to feel pretty wonky as you come off the BCPs, so I'd make sure your consultant/surgeon is fully on board with HRT and knows their shit! 🙂❤️

Awwww Thank you! I have not…..could my thyroid have something to do with all these issues?

I have PCOS and am also peri menopausal, had years without having regular periods then hit peri meno and periods became every couple of weeks and very heavy. I don’t think I was quite as bad as you though. I had all the tests etc including biopsy of the uterus and was told that it was thickening of the uterus and they suggested a mirena coil. I had this fitted and it has helped a bit but I do still bleed although it is much lighter now. I would keep pushing for the hysterectomy I’m also sure that I read somewhere that you can have some sort of operation that takes off the lining of the womb although I assume it will come back. Sorry can’t help more x

impossible to say, but certainly worth checking as many perimenopause symptoms overlap with thyroid issues... that three BCPs a day has blown what remains of my mind! 😁❤️

Avatar

uncertain to say for sure, but endocrinologist looks at all aspects of your glands, pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, your glands have a lot to do with your hormones I would definitely recommend!!

Avatar

Have to say, I've shared the 3xBCP with my Modmins over on our FB group and their minds are blown too. Honestly, I have never heard of that being a thing... why on earth have they kept upping the dose for so long if it's clearly not working?! I can't see any sense to it at all...

Avatar

From what they’ve explained, that amount of BCP are supossed to slow or control the bleeding. So far it’s done nothing but make me feel terrible and had my emotions all over the place!

YESSSS! That is SUCH a high dose of those hormones right? The gyno said it would stop the uncontrollable bleeding-it hasn’t. The entire situation is just a mystery! After a year and a half I’m OVERRRRRR ITTTTT! 😅

Avatar

Every gyno I’ve went to has told me that the three pills a day should stop the bleeding and it should just be a temporary fix. Ok….so if it hasn’t slowed it down….they don’t need to keep me on it. If I kiss one pill the cramping is so bad I’m literally in the floor. And I’ve given birth four times so I can handle some pain ya know….but this…it’s just TOO MUCH after a year and a half

It helps just to know I’m not alone! ❤️ I think the procedure is an endometrial ablation….I think? I’m willing to try anything at this point

yes that is definitely the one😊 It’s quite difficult to get a hysterectomy over here to, I would happily have one at the age of 53 I really don’t need any of those bits and pieces anymore 😂. I can’t believe you have been prescribed 3 BCP’s a day there are many other things that can be taken to stop the bleeding. It is always lovely to know we are not alone, I have only just found this app and already find it so wonderful to be able to read and share other peoples stories. I really hope you get sorted because it’s no fun at all with continued bleeding. ❤️

I appreciate this so much! THANK YOU ❤️🥰

- whilst it's out of our remit, you might want to look up tranexamic acid - that can sometimes help with heavy bleeds:

oh wow!!!! This is so great! I’ve never heard of this medication. This is awesome! Thank you! ❤️

I take Tranexamic acid when I have a period as my iron goes way low to reduce blood loss. They work very well.

Have they checked you for Adenomyosis? I had similar symptoms to you and it took years to diagnose.. worth investigating?
