Torticollis?

Hey ladies! I just began to notice my son is leaning more towards the right side when he’s on tummy time or sitting on my lap. He’s three months old and I just noticed in this picture at bathtime it’s to the right. But his eyes are straight and he has his head straight some of the time it’s just when he’s on tummy time or sitting. Should I be concerned?

If you have access to a chiro that does pediatrics ...it would be very helpful! He probably was tucked that way in the womb and has some tension...chiro and or PT can help

I didn’t even think about that. Thanks so much I’ll check that out

I definitely do the turning of the head when he’s sleeping and things like that. And the picture with the bathtub I try to get his head to go straight but then it always seems to go back to that right tilt. I was always afraid with both boys of ending up having the helmet.

Thank you so much for your input will definitely check it out. Gonna call the pediatrician on Monday and see what’s covered by our insurance.

We did osteopathic manipulation. No cracking but massages and exercises to help his neck.

good to know ❤️

Yes it looks like torticollis and it is because of his position in your womb.

I recommend physiotherapy, NOT chiropractic. Medical professionals do not recommend chiropractic because it is a form of alternative medicine.

I'm a registered nurse and my husband is a doctor, and our son also has mild torticollis.

At home you can encourage him to turn the other way with toys, hold him on your non-dominant side, and alternative the side you put him to sleep on. You can also gently stretch and massage his neck, although the physio will give you a plan.

My brother did this, and my mom had to massage his neck every night and force him to straighten his neck. (Doctor orders) He hateddd it :( poor baby.

Do as much midline work with him as you can. You ultimately want him to be as symmetrical as possible and that happens when baby is evenly in midline. My son had this too and we had to work with a PT 2x a week for months and we still do to keep up with our progress. You also want to switch everything up from the side your used to doing things, from changing his diaper, feedings, naps, sleep etc. with Torticollis there’s a tilt AND a turn. My baby had what’s called left side Torticollis meaning he tilted to his left (think ear to shoulder) but he would look to his right. There are stretches you can do at home (search YouTube) that help with the tilt. The turn however takes a lot of redirecting. There’s sooooooo much I can say but I don’t want to overwhelm you anymore. Feel free to message me anytime! Good luck!!! 🫶🏼

Thank you so much for the information I truly appreciate it. Gonna call the doctor tomorrow morning and push to get a appointment soon

No torticolllis but he definitely favors the right side and a slight flattening starting so will just work on him being balanced with right and left. Thank you so much for listening and giving me your input

so the doctor said it's not torticollis ? I'm curious because I'm going to mine and my son favours the left side which is why I had forceps as he was that way in the womb. I'm turning him but he just turns back . He looks uncomfortable to be the other way . I guess the doctor will just say to carry on what I'm doing xxx

My doctor said if it was torticollis then they wouldn’t be able to move their head at all. My son would move left to right but would lean to the right that’s why I thought it was Torticollis.

Avatar

Definitely get him to a chiro and some PT. It can be corrected. These babies have tension that was likely formed in utero/birth

ahh ok so he can move it just when he sleeps he always on same side so I guess it's not then . Just another worry to add to the list . 😊 Thanks xx
