Caffeine and breastfeeding

So excited to drink coffee freely again - and now I’m sleep deprived I can’t get enough! But does it end up in breast milk? Last thing I need is a caffeinated new born - what’s everyone else doing?

I just drink decaf

I’m sure the NHS guidance on caffeine and breastfeeding is to limit it to the same as you did during pregnancy as it can get into the breast milk and keep baby awake. I have one strong coffee in the morning and then decaf the rest of the day!

2-3 cups (instant) is the max recommended for breastfeeding but see how it works for you and your baby.

I drank decaff for the first 4 months of pregnancy but then kept to 1-2 after. It has not impacted growth, expecting a 7.5-8lb baby

My midwife told me I could drink coffee :) I’ve read that it COULD potentially keep baby awake if had after midday, but there’s not enough research to back it at the moment. I have my morning coffee and I’m good for the day! My baby sleeps alllll day long regardless haha
