I'm not sure exactly what they can see, but I know my 5 week old can see us because she follows us with her eyes if we move around in front of her. My partner was walking backwards and forwards in front of her when I had her on my lap and she was following him with her eyes and moving her head x

At 5 weeks I believe they can see your outline, so it’s not completely clear but they can make out you are there? I think I read vision is best of things within 8-11 inches of them. I could be totally wrong though x

Babies aren’t able to focus on much early on, they’re learning how to use their eyes properly. Before 4 weeks it’s usually your eyes they’re drawn to but even then it’s very blurry & mostly outlines. After a month they start being able to focus on more of your face so when they’re really watching you it’s because they’re trying to piece together what is in front of them. It’s still very out of focus at this age though so it’s important to show them black & white toys and pictures as the high contrast really helps them x

I have a really cool app called “the wonder weeks” that explains all of this and more about the babies general development :) it’s very interesting 😄
It said the vision is blurry but they focus on the outside of our faces and the contours of our face first. (But it’s described in A lot more detail on the app.). X
