If this is in regards to the post yesterday, I am still on board the Monreaux train!! I think this will be very split as far as peoples opinions since gender bending names isn’t for everyone. But I think it’s still beautiful 😊

Avatar

lol yup it’s me again!!! You’re awesome!!! thank you 💖

Avatar

You’re very welcome! I’d be prepared to walk people through it the first time to pronounce it but spelt that way leans more feminine for sure!

Avatar

That is super cute and a badass name for a daughter!

Avatar

I prefer Monroe 🤷🏼‍♀️

Avatar

Thanks!!!, mistakenly told my dad, and he had me second guessing it as more of a masculine name!

same

I’m all for Monroe!! Monreaux looks absolutely illiterate. I just tried to write it three times and it kept autocorrecting to “non resident” lol 😂 I don’t know why you’d need to change it to the point of being unrecognizable. Monroe is perfectly fine and unique on its own. 🤷‍♀️

Lowkey I think that's a much more forgiving change of spelling than like, ashleigh or mackynna or however most of those names are spelled. I think the -reaux is a really cool change and makes it super unique. Sure they might have it misspelled at starbucks or during some activities, but people even misspell my name all the time. It happens 🤷‍♀️ also they didn't even ask for opinions about the spelling which I just realized 😂 so bye yall that are up in arms about it

Avatar

I love it and I’m from south Louisiana so I LOVE the spelling we love adding the eaux to everything 😂

Avatar

it’s different but I wouldn’t say illiterate. Of course autocorrect isn’t going to get it. But it’s the same as Margeaux or other names ending in -eaux. But it’s pronounced phonetically still, -eaux is a common French suffix!

Avatar

Exactly what both Isabella,Tiffany & Sarah Beth said, you all summed it up perfectly, we chose that spelling for a specific reason, if we wanted it to be Monroe, that’s what it would’ve been, but we’re not basic. As stated in the post we’re not worried about the actual spelling of the name, was more interested in thoughts of does it sound more masculine or feminine. I think the ladies that answered the actual question, and read the fine print lol helped perfectly with us making a decision ☺️

Avatar

And we’re not from Louisiana but for whatever reason we’re drawn to the eaux, we add it to all of our name options lol

Avatar

EXACTLY! You said it best!

Avatar

... but they're not French. And Margeaux is typically spelt Margo(t) in English speaking countries.

If you want a more unusual less "basic" name (not that I think Monroe is basic) just choose a different name. It's just silly to lumber a child with a bizarre spelling they'll have to correct for the rest of their life.

Avatar

they could be French! Ya never know! And there’s multiple ways to spell Margo just like there multiple ways to spell everything else! They like it. It’s phonetic. -eux -aux -eaux all kinds of fun ways to spell an “oh” sound. All kinds of names are used in English speaking countries. These people may not even be white, all kinds of cultures do things differently. Let people be happy with their choices. From the comments you can clearly tell she wants support bc she’s happy with her choice.

For the people that can properly read, understood it. And I’m positive our child wouldn’t have trouble correcting people, we have a family full of unique names . However, once again we were not asking the question based on how we chose the spelling of the name, which we have our own reasons for, and aren’t planned on changing. The question was about it being a unisex name and hearing different thoughts on that. I’m glad that you like the name Monroe, next time you chime in on a post just let your opinions be on the question at hand…or should I say it in French, Apprenez à lire 😊

Avatar

and after all, you said “spelt” instead of “spelled” so its apparent you aren’t qualified to judge naming conventions. Good day 😃

Avatar

Exactly!! You understood the spelling from the start without it having to be explained or broken down (for the uneducated)! Everything you’ve said has been our exact thoughts. And why I say people that get it, get it…so we’re not worried about our child having to explain or correct.

Avatar

It doesn't seem too masculine. It's a lovely choice! 💕

Avatar

I love it!

Monreaux is so freakin cool. Like yes a typical spelling is easier to maybe do but In my opinion your spelling choice is so original and unique but not weird at all. I also think of it as more feminine than masculine because I do think of Marilyn when I hear it. So spelling it differently is also smart for that reason. Kinda makes it her own.

Thank you for your input! 💖

Avatar

Thank you!

Avatar

Great thank you!!!

Avatar

Spelled like that I'd think girl. But the name in general is completely unisex to me. I've heard it for both.

Avatar

I actually think it’s ALL girl, I can’t see it on a boy at all! but Marilyn Monroe is the only person I know with the name… so I think of lipstick, big boobs, blonde lol. Monreaux would suit a woman who loves glitter & high heels. Good luck! 💃

Avatar

Thanks! And I do love my heels, lipstick and glitter ✨ 😂

Avatar

Love the spelling. Beautifully French. I think it works perfectly fine as a girls name! Think Marilyn Monroe. It’s in line with the surname trend and leans more towards a girl connotation for me

Avatar

Thanks for your input!!!💖

hey! i was wondering if you ended up choosing this name and what opinions you get on it now? we’re planning on using monroe as our girls middle name 💕
