Night wakings

My son is almost 18 months. He has started waking up multiple times through the night crying. He use to wake up a few times and I would nurse him but he was quiet and content and would go right back to sleep. Now he wakes up so upset and he just refuses to go back to sleep. Sometimes he even refuses being nursed. I often wonder if it is due to teething so I give Tylenol which does seem to help but I can't keep giving him Tylenol every night. I read that I should give up nursing in the night and this might help him sleep through the night better. So I'm looking for tips on night weaning. Also any other suggestions of why he just won't sleep through the night and why now all of sudden when he does wake up he is so miserable.

we are going through the same thing, my doctor suggested that it could be an iron deficiency, focus on iron rich foods and reduce dairy intake to improve iron absorption. we just started so i haven’t seen a change yet, we also just weaned him off his night time bottle which was just water anyway, and have a water bottle in his room instead. it’s really hard at this age they are soooo determined. i hope it improves for you soon 💕

I just wanted to let you know that my son is the same age and going through the exact same thing and I do not breastfeed or give him a bottle at night. For me I'm pretty certain that it's teething because of how he holds his mouth when he's awake and even shakes his head back and forth when he is drifting to sleep Just letting you know that my non breastfed baby is going through the same thing so I doubt that's the actual reason why

@Sara Teething is a huge suspicion as to why for me as well. How often do you use Tylenol to help at night? I just feel like I'm over using it.

@Ashley I totally get that. I really only give it if I see he's kind of struggling before bed. Cuz I really find that giving it 2 days in a row not only feels scary to me but I feel like maybe they could build a tolerance and then it becomes kind of useless in the end? So I really just try and do it based on his mood after dinner and I'll give it 30 min before bed
