How would you pronounce Ayla?

We love the name Eye-la and prefer the spelling of Ayla vs Isla or even Iyla. Trying to decipher how often we’d need to correct people. Middle name is Devi.

Would definitely pronounce it with a hard A instead of an “I” sound.

I would think about how others will see her name on paper & pronounce it wrong all the time & spell it in the way that would stop that from happening 😂😍

Avatar

I'd say Ay-la but if you want different spelling for Isla I'd go with Iyla

Avatar

I've only ever heard it pronounced Ay-la. I've seen it spelt Iylah before which I think looks nice x

Avatar

My niece is named Ayla, and we pronounce it Aye-lah.

Agreed like Layla, Ay-la. As much as a cool spelling is unique I do think we are doing our future babes a favour when we go for the most obvious spelling. I'm in Scotland so Isla would be the obvious choice.
My surname is constantly mispronounced and spelt wrong and it is annoying.

Avatar

I said it like Isla in my head

Avatar

I’d pronounce it with a hard A, “A-la”. If you’re wanting “Eye-la” is recommend spelling it the traditional “Isla” or it will just annoy you having to correct people all the time unfortunately.

Avatar

My baby’s name is actually Ayla! We pronounce it with an “I”

Avatar

Im a teacher and I would pronounce it with an 'A'. I would choose either Isla or Iyla if you want the Eye-la sound to the name :) xxxxxxx

Avatar

I initially thought eye-la but not sure if it's more like ay-la

Avatar

I would pronounce it Aaay-la if I saw the name Ayla.

Avatar

How about spelling it Aila? Might get more of a chance in the pronunciation you want.

Avatar

Ay-la, I’d say it how it’s spelt

Avatar

I’d also pronounce it as Ay-la. I knew a girl who spelt her name Ilar (pronounced like Isla - in Australia, I see how the R may be more pronounced in North American accented)

Avatar

All u need is an h ..! Ahyla is cute and will be pronounced how you want it too . Ahlah also

Avatar

My brain went ay-la when I saw it and then self corrected to Isla afterwards so I think you will have a complete mixture of pronounciations and people probably stumbling initially when they see her name written down.
Personally I think it's a really lovely way of spelling Isla and if you like it I would use it xxx

Avatar

Ay-la like Layla, agree if you want eye-La you would be better to go for Isla 😊

Avatar

Phonetically I’d say (A-la) but personally I could totally see it being (EYE-la) and I would have probably guessed (A-la) then asked if it was (EYE-la). So I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong but I do think people will say (A-la) first

Avatar

i would pronounce Ayla more like Ayy-Lah than Eye-Lah.

maybe Eila as a spelling if you're not keen on Isla. even Aila i trhink i would be more likely to pronounce correctly, it's the "y" that would cause me to assume it was pronounced like Layla, without the L. 💕

Avatar

I would say eye-la. Again, maybe it’s being Scottish and saying “Aye” makes me automatically go to Eye-la rather than A-la. Also for me, Isla would be a little different too. The I would be much sharper/shorter than Eye-la, more of a Iy than a Eye but it’s so hard to explain over writing

Avatar

definitely aye-la

Avatar

I would say it like my name, eye-la. I've had a couple instances where people have misspelt my name as Ayla.
I love unique names so would go for it. I had an unusual name growing up since Isla has only become popular in the past 10 years or so and loved it. My partner has an unusual spelling and complains about it all the time but really he loves it because he gets to tell all these funny stories about it constantly 😅

Avatar

I would absolutely pronounce be pronouncing Ayla as a-la.
I personally don’t understand how people would get eye-la from the spelling Ayla.

I think the only way to get eye-la would be Isla, to me I personally like the spelling.

Avatar

Eye-luh, spelled Aila

Avatar

I’d pronounce it like Isla but English grammar suggests it should probably be pronounced Ay-la

Avatar

My god daughter is Ayla. (Aye -La) never had someone call her Isla.
We are UK so May differ in US but they are different names for the spellings entirely. Good luck 🤞🏻

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲
