Do you still smoke while breast feeding?

I’ve been wanting to dab a little and just take a break and chill out for a few hours 😖 but I don’t want to risk anything going into baby since I only breastfeed. I can’t imagine going for years before I can medicate again 😫. How are you ladies holding up? How are you smoking if you still are breast feeding ? Visibly do you see any change in baby after smoking and feeding him? I wonder how long after smoking does it reach the milk? Would it show up in any tests and would doctors know? Why aren’t there more studies on what cannabis does to babies in small quantities? I wouldn’t want to harm bubba. Also would cbd show up in blood tests? I’m thinking if I can’t have a sesh maybe I can do just cbd cartridges? Does anyone know?

smoking CBD actually has much less studies then smoking THC while breastfeeding. to my understanding, thc is active in the breastmilk for about 4 hours. it can stay stored in your milk for up to 16 weeks. breastmilk is full of cannabinoids, even if you never smoked a day in your life. so no matter how hard your trying to avoid your lo getting cannabinoids in their system, if your breastfeeding they’ll get them no matter what. It won’t harm your baby, if anything it’ll calm you down which ultimately calms baby down. If your smoking heavily it WILL show up in your lo’s bloodwork. If your smoking a couple times a week, it’s likely that it won’t but there’s still a possibility. I was smoking once a week and my lo needed blood work done, luckily for me there was no trace in her system. If you feel you would benefit from smoking, do it. just watch how much your smoking. if you feel it’s just something for fun, wait. i’d pump a bottle before smoking just so if you’re lo needs to eat

you can feed them. i didn’t do that and had to breastfeed 2 hours after smoking - she didn’t seem high but i still felt bad

I did, but tried to make sure I kept it until after I pumped. My doctors were fully aware the whole time and not concerned about development. I am a grown “canna-baby” and all my issues are from lived experience or hereditary. I never noticed a change in my baby, she had a robust birth weight for her gestational age, she has always exceeded her growth and developmental expectations. Of course that doesn’t make it safe, but we chose to be risk aware and conscious about limiting my consumption to a therapeutic level. I was already on class C medications and prescribed opioids during pregnancy, nobody thought cannabis was going to increase risk or add further harm. It helped a lot with my chronic pain, as well as my D-MER when I was lactating.

@Cameron Dutko thanks 🙏 for all the info . Was it a cartridge you used or the flower? Did you get more nervous taking care of baby while medicated?

@Dana thanks 🙏 for the answer. Did you use cartridges or flower? And how did you feel while taking care if baby and medicated?

i mostly only use carts due to convenience & lack of second hand smoke left on me. i used flower like twice since i have birth and it was only socially. i did feel nervous the first time but for no reason. my s/o ended up helping out the first day since i wanted to make sure i was good and since then i’ve ben fine

I personally vaporize flower using a volcano, which is pretty much the only medically studied vaporizer. It has data showing it reduces the toxins associated with combustion, which I was more worried about than cannabinoids. I have never felt unsure about caring for my baby either using cannabis or on psych meds. I show up to parenting better engaged and get less overwhelmed, less guilt and more compassion all around 😊 environment and nurture play such an underrepresented role in future health outcomes. I’m sure my baby will be better of with a mom who uses cannabis than a mom who is frequently overstimulated, touched out and emotionally overwhelmed.

I smoke & was not going to wait years. I definitely don't use any kind of cartridges. Not a fan. CBD would kind of be pointless in my opinion. But I smoke after my baby is asleep for the night, since he does sleep through the night. Or edibles. I've been my entire pregnancy. My baby is a healthy, happy, babbling chubby baby.

Thank you all so much for your answers 🙏
