How much does your 6 month old weigh?

We’ve been for Elena’s 6 month weigh in today and she’s now 7.16kg/17lb 12oz up to about the 46th centile! Just wondering what everyone else’s are weighing now? HV made me feel bad about some other aspects so trying to cheer myself up!

My 6 month old weighs 19.10 now

My LG is also Elena! ❤ she was 17lbs 15.5 oz at her 6 month apt which was about 5 days after she hit 6 months. She was at the 75th centile, so sounds like the margin is pretty slim if they are only 3 oz off....

Avatar

our little one isn’t 6 months till Saturday so I guess it’s about a weeks difference! How do you pronounce Elena? We use Eh-Lain-ah

Avatar

Actually just looked it up, 7.16kg is only 15.8 lbs. So they are 2lbs different. Mine is 8.15 kg

Avatar

we pronounce it the same!

Avatar

8.7kg

Avatar

6 and a half months mine was 14.6lbs still only between 1 and 2 on the percentile chart xx

Avatar

oh the HV must have written it wrong then! It definitely said 7.16kg on the scales

My little girl is 6 months old next week and she was weighed 2 weeks ago at 12lb 12oz - on the 4th centile (she was under 2nd centile when born) xx

Avatar

6 months old next week and she’s 7.6 kg 😊

My little girl was weighed a week ago today and she was 6 months on Saturday and she weighed 13lbs 5 and is on the 25th centile 😊

Avatar

I weighed him myself today on scales he was 19lb 2oz. Are we supposed to have hv apt at 6months?

Avatar

you do in our area I assumed that was standard across the country. You have to call and make the appointment though it doesn’t get sent through 😊

Avatar

i think it depends on what area your in. In my area we dont have our next HV appoinment until 9 months but we have weekly weigh in clinics that we can go to (i dont go every week)

So my last HV appointment was the 6/8 week check and then the next will be when LG is 9 months which they will send me through via text or letter 😊

I take my little girl every four weeks. She always gains half a lb.
I got her weighed last week as planned, she was 7.73kg / 17lb. She has put 2.5lb on, in four weeks 🤣

Avatar

what did the HV say to upset you?

Avatar

she was telling me that because our baby doesn’t do much tummy time (she’s very refluxy so we do as much as we can fit in!) that she’s not developing well, as she can’t roll and doesn’t crawl! I’ve looked it up and I also used to work in childcare so I know that all babies are different and actually she’s not ‘behind’ and ‘developmentally delayed’! She also thought I was odd for not weaning yet! I was having a bad day anyway and it just really upset me. She basically told me I need to do tummy time at least 5 times a day for 15 minutes (totally not feasible for us!)

Avatar

Please don't listen to her. She's so rude, and you can actually provide feedback to you local HV team, I strongly suggest you do.
As for tummy time, a baby's reflux outweighs the need for tummy time, she can have tummy time on you, and pushing away from you chest etc.
Rolling, not every baby rolls by 6 months. Crawling?!! Is she serious, thats not a typical milestone, until 7 to 10 months.
Your daughter is definitely not developmentally delayed.
Is your baby sitting, or showing signs of being ready for weaning?

Avatar

20.3 pounds . 9.25 kg. My little girl is a chunky monkey x

Avatar

yeah, she’s the only HV I’ve seen who has had a problem with the fact we don’t do tummy time as much as recommended (gp etc also aware and say she’s fine) in terms of sitting she’s around what is suggested for 9 months, pulls herself to sitting using our hands for support and sits unaided for as long as she wants (she can go for over an hour!) so really not delayed in that way. I think it upset me so much because our nephew is actually developmentally delayed, he has a genome disorder that means at 3 and a half he still can’t sit unaided, roll over, crawl, talk, use a potty, walk or feed himself. So to hear her say my baby is behind when I know it’s not true and even if it was I would love her unconditionally anyway! We are planning to start weaning in next couple of weeks.

Avatar

it’s a shame because all the others I’ve seen have been great! I think she said she wasn’t usually in this area but was due to sickness so hopefully won’t see her again! We had a lovely HV when she was newborn who came every 2 weeks for 3 months 😊

Avatar

ah Thankyou. Best give them a call ha x

Avatar

8.169kg we went to health visitor and she said it’s perfect weight apparently ☺️
He’s 6m and 2w

Avatar

what a horrible rude HV sorry you had to go through that 😔 i'm actually honest and tell them that i dont do tummy time or if we do its about 10/15 mins a day because my LG has reflux and she cant stand tummy time because it makes her uncomfy and i have said i am not putting my child through something she is clearly not comfortable with.
They push it so much more now because babies are not carried around as much now as they used to be.

My LG can only roll from tummy to back (she only started this last week) and again thats because she dosnt like being on her tummy so if we do do tummy time then she just rolls straight onto her back 🤷‍♀️ but she still dosnt roll from back to tummy.
Also rolling isnt actually classed as a developmental milestone so she is talking rubbish

As for crawling well she needs to go back and redo her qualification (if she has 1) 🤣 as thats not a 6 month milestone more like a 7 to 10 month milestone.

Dont take any notice your doing great 🥰

My baby weighs 19lb 4. He turned 6 months on the 12th jan and was 8lb 5 born x

My son is 15 pounds he was 7 3 oz when born he's nearly 6 months

Avatar

LG 6lb 11oz at birth to 18lb 1oz at 26 weeks

so you little one can sit for much longer than mine. And I'm sure more than other babies. Every baby has their own pace, and it's awful that they're all given the same time frames.
My daughter has been rolling from from back to tummy, since 4.5m, but cannot get back. And she just gets frustrated and screams, it doesn't look like she will do it any time soon.
Weaning can make so many parents nervous. My husband looks like he's not breathing (out of fear), when he watches me give Evie some food, but his confidence will come.
Weaning doesn't have to start by 6 months, ask dietitians, they would rather baby to be weaned when they're ready, than doing it for the sake of it.
We started just before 6 months, Evie has silent reflux, and had many chocking episodes, mostly in her sleep, since birth. And I think that's what makes my husband scared, because she's choked so badly.
I'm glad you've seen some nice HVs, the bad ones make parents nervous and unsure, and it shouldn't be that way.

Avatar

But please do give feedback, they need to know about their team members and how they're going about things wrong, and how to adapt training , to support parents.

19 lbs 3 oz

6.5 months and she’s 15lbs. My dr. made me feel bad because she isn’t crawling or sitting up by herself yet. :/

Avatar

try not to feel bad, in reality babies tend to start sitting up unaided by 9 months at 6 months they are more likely to sit up with help, I think the reflux has helped our girl with this as we’ve kept her in a sitting position a lot to stop her being sick! And crawling is actually a skill that most don’t master until between 8-9 months and some never bother! My niece never crawled as she had awful reflux so literally never did tummy time, she’s a perfectly happy healthy functioning 12 year old now!

Avatar

this makes me feel better, thank you😊
