Birth control options

I'm 46 with 2 grown kids. I haven't been on birth control for years. Always used condoms. My current boyfriend has a fear of them breaking and doesn't think that's enough. What's a good option with the lowest side effects. I'm afraid of mood change, wt gain. Thanks

Honestly, at that age, birth control can really mess with peri-menopause and the symptoms. A great book is The Hormone Repair Manual. She talks about BC. The ring may be a good option if you truly feel like you need extra protection. Or use ovulation sticks and just time sex better.

@Amy Thanks! That's what I was worried about. I use period tracker and that's really good with tracking ovulation. My other half just wants extra protection because he definitely doesn't want any other kids and he won't get a vasectomy😔. I actually thinking about getting my tubes tied. I'm seeing my gyn today to discuss options

I hate that the other half won't take the option for you. There are risks involved with a tubal. Here's a good article of what they don't talk about: https://www.today.com/health/getting-your-tubes-tied-what-are-side-effects-t156369 The period trackers are great for tracking but every woman's cycle is different for ovulation, especially as we age, so if looking at ovulation I would def do testing strips to find those peak times. Good luck!

I know right! Thanks for the article and suggestions!
