My little boy is 10 weeks and feeding him is just a nightmare. He’s been on Kendamil and now Hipp anti-reflux but the discomfort he displays is horrible- sick constantly, moaning, groaning all day and night. The GP has prescribed Aptamil Pepti 1 as she is wondering whether he has CMPA which I am considering trying, or should I go for goats milk as I’ve heard this is gentler on babies’ stomachs and doesn’t completely eliminate all protein. Has anybody got any advice? I am losing my mind!

We’ve been on pepti 1 for a week now, same symptoms. The groaning has stopped, he’s not being sick any less but it isn’t upsetting him anymore

We are on kendamil goat because our baby was constipated. The pain in the tummy is gone and the dirty diapers are out :) We have 7 weeks happy baby sleeping all night !

Been on Aptamil Pepti 1 now for several weeks. So much better.
If prescribed for CMPA then goats milk won’t help as proteins are similar to cows milk. x

thanks for replying. what was your baby’s symptoms other than constipation? My little boy isn’t constipated you see but wondering whether they shared any of the same symptoms. Did you gradually move onto goats milk or just go straight from cows to milk for all feeds?

thanks for replying. Did you try omeprazole first by any chance? Do you have a thickener for the milk to help with the sick, as this is one of my concerns. With my little one being on anti-reflux for the last 6 weeks, I wonder whether he will struggle to keep Pepti 1 down with it being a lot thinner

We only had problems with constipation and tummy aches. We were on Kendamil cow 1 and the first 3 days we mixed it, for example, 2 spoons of cow and two spoons of goat. Then 3 spoons of goat 1 cow and then only goat milk.

thanks for replying. Glad your little one is doing much better on it 😊
Yeah, my concern is jumping straight to Pepti 1, I feel like goats milk is a middle ground to try first. Did you just go straight onto the Pepti 1 from your normal formula?

You can use carobel to thicken the aptamik pepti 1. The gp can prescribe it or you can buy it on amazon or at a pharmacy. Bear in mind pepti 1 is only hydrolysed milk and therefore still contains broken down cows milk proteins so the gp may then look to trial an amino acid based formula. Full improvement can take up to 6 weeks. I would do a straight switch and remember it doesn't taste as good so baby might not be too happy at first but there's things you can add to make it more palatable if needed (I didnt) I've got 3 children with reflux and 2 with cows milk allergies. Feel free to pop me a message if you need any help. X

yes he’s also on omeprazole, hoping to wean him off it once we know if the dairy free diet is working. We aren’t using thickener at the moment but thinking of trying carobel incase the only reason he’s still being sick is how thin the pepti is

I’m currently trying oneprazole with his anti reflux milk but not really seeing a different yet. If this doesn’t work, would you try the Pepti 1 first or try Kendamil goats milk? If I still need to add a thickener, does that suggest reflux or just that the milk is too thin for him?

I would try the pepti, if it is CMPA then the goat milk proteins are similar to cow milk so he would react to that too

I'd try the pepti first, he may still need a thickener as some cmpa milks are thinner than regular milk (I know neocate is) as aimee says they're very similar proteins so it's unlikely to help I think. There's a couple of cmpa support groups on here and Facebook you could join for more support on confirming or disproving the diagnosis. X

thank you all for your help. I’ll have a look at those support groups. Fingers crossed I get to the bottom of it and make my little boy a bit more comfortable 😊

straight onto Aptamil Pepti 1 from regular formula

Also, paediatrician said if too thin for baby, be generous with scoops or add extra scoop to bottles.
So 6oz bottle use 7oz scoop
