At my 39 week appointment yesterday they did a speculum test on me to make sure my water didn’t break, and during that test I was informed (without asking to know) that I am 0cm dilated. It made me feel really discouraged! I have bee “doing all the right things” (walking, working out, ball exercises, dates, RLT, sex) in addition to carrying low for weeks now, with constant pelvic pressure and BH contractions. I thought for sure I would be somewhat dilated by now, if not delivered by now. Feeling really down and wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice. Thanks in advance ❤️

My midwives aren’t even doing cervical checks! I’m almost 38 weeks and have no idea what’s going on down there haha
My midwives said you can go from zero to 10 with no time at all, so it’s possible you might just be like that until labour hits ☺️
I have all the same symptoms as you, and just want this guy out at this point, so I understand feeling discouraged! Just pretend you didn’t get checked and you’re just waiting for labour to start! 🥰

I only have some words of encouragement I guess, but with my first I didn’t get checked till 39 weeks, and was 1cm dilated. Went to the hospital 4 days later for contractions and was still only 1cm but then delivered my son that night, only 14 hours later. It can go fast, so don’t be discouraged is absolutely right.
I know how it can feel though. Hang in there!

I feel you on this. I’ll be 39 weeks Saturday and have been at zero for dilating the past two weeks. I have been doing everything like you. He’s definitely going to come when he’s ready just hopefully not past 40 weeks 🥲

Remember that a lot of European countries say that pregnancy is 41 weeks long. It’s not at all uncommon to go past your due date and as far as possible we need to be accepting of that and know that baby will arrive when they’re ready. Hang in there!

It's normal. The opposite can happen too, where you can be dilated for weeks before you go into labor. I was 0.5 cm dilated for like 3 weeks and went into labor 4 days after the last time they checked.

@Valerie, true, I remember my previous pregnancy. My Ob checked my cervix at 38 weeks, and I was 0 deleting within 1 week exactly the day I turned 39 weeks. I went to the hospital with more contractions. When they checked my cervix, I was 8 deleting and ended up giving birth at 39 weeks.
