Im 10+5 and im not sure if I've caught my baby's hearbeat or not. Can anyone tell me if its mine or baby's heartbeat?

I have the same doppler and on the box it says it's 16 weeks an more to show up on the doppler! Just keep that in mind

I really wouldn’t advise using home Doppler without being trained or ask for untrained peoples opinion, major risks of either getting over anxious while there is nothing wrong, or the other way give false reassurance, very dangerous

Avatar

@Mechelle it says 12 weeks on my box but my friend got readings earlier with this doppler make x

Avatar

I really wouldn’t use these unless you’re trained to use them as they can give false reassurance, 10 weeks is way to early to detect a heartbeat from a Doppler they still haven’t come up out of your pelvis until after 12 weeks x

Avatar

@Jade i appreciate your concern but that wasn't what i was asking. I know the risks and Ive made an educated choice regarding my body and my baby. I was asking if this is what their hearbeat should sound like.

Avatar

that’s why I commented? As you asked if that’s the heartbeat ? as you wouldn’t detect the heartbeat at 10 weeks from a Doppler hence why midwives only do it after 16 weeks

Avatar

It could be babies it could be yours or it could be neither. You can keep trying but after a OB or midwife appointment when they actually use a Doppler you can ask them how to find it and see what they say because it’s gonna be difficult for any of us to know for sure. Especially being this early

Avatar

If it’s less than 120, chances are it’s your own HR. Babies heartbeats are much higher than an adults :)

Avatar

Its definitely not the heartbeat because the number go all over the place. It would be around the same if it was a heartbeat

My midwife was explaining to me the other day why they don't recommend them. The placenta apparently makes a similar sound to the heartbeat, but there's a certain click noise they listen for which is baby. So yoi think you're listening to your baby, but you're not

Avatar

It's really easy to get your own heartbeat or the blood going through the placenta or sometimes nothing in all cases it might cause you stress that's not needed which is why it's not recommended you use home Dopplers

You need to be trained to find baby's heartbeat x

Avatar

i used to be a student midwife, trained in using dopplers. this just sounds like a mixture of the blood flow in your placenta and your heartbeat. this is what it should sound like, but i would really advise against using it especially this early.

Avatar

I think that sounds like the whooshing of the placenta, very similar to babies heartbeat x

Avatar

thankyou x

Avatar

Yeah it's not advised to use those things at home for this reason. That, among other reasos. Just stick to your pre natal appointments. I'm sure baby is OK❤

Avatar

No, that sounds like placental/uterine blood flow

Avatar

That sounds like placenta to me 🤔 I had an anterior placenta so my midwife would often pick up that whooshing sound when looking for bubs heart beat - the heart beat sounds like a sharper, more distinct gallop than the swoosha swoosha that I'm hearing here

Avatar

Sounds like baby heart beat to me. It's usually described as "horses galloping". You could, also, get some electrode cream to use with the doppler, helps when moving around, searching for the babies heartbeat. 🙂 Hope this helps.

Avatar

This sounds like placenta not heart beat

Avatar

That sounds like the placenta but just want to say the Doppler was a godsend for me cuz I’m a very anxious person it really calmed me and after using it a few times you can easily distinguish between different heartbeats 💓

Avatar

If it makes mom feel better leave her to it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm sure she will still go to midwife appointments where all can be confirmed anyway!

I don't know the answer to your question original poster, sorry

Avatar

my midwife told me it is detectable but quite hard because they’re so buried in there and small which can cause panic if they don’t find it so that’s why they don’t use the Doppler until 16 weeks I found my baby’s heartbeat at 11 with a doppler though.

Avatar

Don’t listen to the negative nancies. I wouldn’t have survived my first trimester anxiety if it wasn’t for my Doppler 💖. It sounds like the heart beat! It could be your placenta or something else, but if it makes you feel better that’s ok too!

Avatar

Its definitely babys

Avatar

Don’t use an at home Doppler, it’s not recommended for anyone other than a trained professional to do as you could mistake your own heart beat for that of your babies, if you have any concerns always reach out to your triage team at the hospital, don’t use this as reassurance and not get checked out.

Avatar

Sounds like a placenta. It will sound like a horse galloping when you find the heartbeat

Early waters/pre term labour?

I can’t get checked until later today unfortunately. I can’t tell if I’m leaking/starting early. I definitely think I’m having braxton hicks yesterday and today.. i have some pain in my back but she is quite low down so hoping it’s just pressure, baby was a little quieter yesterday but she’s back to more normal movements today, but my underwear just seems to get so wet, especially after going to the bathroom. And I honestly can’t work out the smell, I’m pretty sure it’s just discharge/urine leaking but there’s that worry in my mind a little. Are there any other ways to know/check if it could be the start of it all?
