I see a lot of posts about "bedtime" for newborns, most people saying it's around 8/9 pm.. how does that even work? My baby has no bedtime as such it fully depends on when he decides he is hungry / tired etc. Am I doing something wrong? I WISH he'd sleep at 8, but he just refuses to until midnight

Hi! You are not doing anything wrong! Your baby is still adjusting to being out of the womb and may not know the difference between day and night. Just like they told me “lower your expectations” and go with the flow of your baby. Do not try to put them on a feeding or sleeping schedule as they are too young and it will stress you out.

My baby is now 2 months and we are barely now starting a bedtime routine that’s works for our family. Newborns bedtime can be anywhere between 8 pm- 12

How old is he? My baby has just started sleeping through the night but each night is different depending on what time feed is! Sometimes he has a feed and does 10-6 but tonight he went down at 8pm so will probably wake really early lol.

We have no routine and I got worried I'm doing something wrong. I don't know it's amazing that people get their baby to sleep at 8 or 9 but it's like ok maybe they go bed at that time but I guess they wake up too at 12 or 1 more or less. So in reality it's not proper bed time. I don't know we just go with her flow. Depends how she is ..sometimes it's earlier. At 10 sometimes it's at 1....I imagine bed is when they start sleeping for more than 30 mins/ 1 hour ...at least that's what I feel like is when she starts sleeping.
Our little lady is half Spanish so my other excuse can be that she's picking up Spanish habits of going to bed late ..?!?!?!

Hey, this is when the night sleep counts from. So for example mine has a feed around 7pm (can be 6.45, 7.15, 7.30 etc), so I do my night routine at 5.45pm (bath, massage, book, clothes change) then baby sleeps till 10pm and 3am when she wakes up for a "night" feed, I.e. not a fun feed with no playing, no chatting, etc. You can set up your night period depending on the feeding slots you have and try to gradually shift sleeping from morning hours to evening hours. But you don't have to do it :) maybe your night starts at 12am, then u do ur routine at 11pm :)

Night time all depends on day for us but we are slowly getting in some kind of routine but not by the hour. If she sleeps or feeds a different time in the day then we go with it. I make the last bottle a bit bigger and we just go back to it a couple of times leading up to bed time within the two hours of course. We go to our room around 8 and by 10ish she is starting to settle. That’s the only kind of thing we have as a routine atm day times are all different and some evening she may have a bath others not and I don’t stop her napping at 6/7pm. Atm for us a later bed time is better as she doesn’t wake until 4/5am I think if she slept from 7 she would wake up earlier for a feed

Our “routine” is asleep between 7-8pm, after a feed or play time, she wakes up after 5-6h. She started doing this by herself a week back and I’ve stuck to it. I give her warm milk in the evening and feed her in a dimmed room.
Give your baby time and get a routine. I get my baby to sleep early to avoid her getting cranky. Each baby is different, you don’t need to have a routine, do what suits you and baby.
