So I have started the horrible symptoms of menopause , the hot flashes are awful, only the other day I was putting on a pair of tights when one came on and I was sweating. My question is has anyone decided to go back on contraception like the pill to help with symptoms? My husbands had a vasectomy so I haven't needed anything but I'm willing to try somthing as I don't want to go down the hrt if I can help it.

Hello 😊 Is there any particular reason that you don't want to consider HRT?

@Sharon I have read it can make you feel depressed, which I have suffered with in the past and weight gain. Haven't got a problem gaining weight but I'm a recovered from eating disorder so don't want to go down that path again

@Sammi - I see. HRT actually alleviates depression and anxiety where that's caused by hormonal changes. I would not be here thanks to CPTSD, clinical depression, anxiety disorder, *and* perimenopause emotional difficulties if it weren't for HRT.
Did you know that modern HRT contains less potent forms of oestrogen than BCP, and once settled, has fewer side effects? It's known as Body-identical HRT and, as the name suggests, is not synthetic like the hormones in BCP.
I started HRT aged 46 and lost the weight I'd put on due to perimenopause. Lots of our M-brace The Change group members experience this, too.
Yes, weight gain *may* be a side effect initially, but once hormones have settled, most people find that goes.
I hope that's helpful. 😊❤️

Incidentally, if you haven't already had any bloods done to rule out other possible causes, then that'd be a good idea 🙂

@Sharon brilliant thanks for the advice I have a clinic appointment in a few months to talk about hrt and things so will speak to them about it

- fab 🙂 Please do, cos the sooner you can get it the better with early menopause/POI. Apart from symptom relief, it's the longer-term added protection for bone health and cardiovascular stuff that's important. You might also want to ask them if testosterone is suitable for you once you've got HRT sorted and settled 😊

Going back on your pill will almost certainly help. Xx

Have recently been diagnosed with POI (36) and the GP doesn’t even want me to consider HRT, she has simply suggested the pill “to solve all problems” (also having dreadful hot flashes, super heavy periods, nausea and migraines) I don’t have a good history with it, it makes me have horrible moods etc. Going to do my research before my next appointment and I have heard HRT good for the bone issues etc.
