Ear piercing

Hi!! I got my ears pierced 3 days ago. I have been using the saline solution but one ear in particular has gotten red and swollen. I have been using TCP and salt and water three times a day but doesn't seem to be working. I'm twisting the earring and stuff and using clean hands and cotton wool. Anybody any suggestions, tips, or advice please

Thank you

For me at least, I'm allergic to most metals, so I can only wear sterling silver in my ears or they get infected.

Another thing could be, if you're twisting it too much it could just be agitated, so make sure you are super gentle with it whenever you move it around.

Good luck!

Did you get it done at claires?

If it was done with a piercing gun the chances of infection are very high as the gun and the earing used arent sterile. They usually will get red and swollen due to the fact that its a blunt force piercing.

I have a few piercings and whenever one of mine gets like that or similar I soak the earrings in alcohol for a while and wash/rinse with just soap and water the piercing. Then after drying the earring I apply some triple antibiotic directly to it and a bit also around the piercing, put it back in place and just leave it. After 2-3 days it's gone, that's what's worked/works for me.

You’re not supposed to touch your earrings not even twisting them it slows down the healing process by rebraking the skin that’s healing. The skin will not heal to the earing sticking to it and preventing you from changing in the future it if you don’t touch it any professional piercer will tell you that

Depending on where your piercing is on your ears they take longer to heal and some swelling is normal and so are crusties. If it was pierced with a gun and not a needle that will also increase the healing time.

Chances are your cleaning is working but the piercing is being aggravated too much. Also your solution only needs to be SEA salt not table salt and water. IF it’s oozing, it’s hot to touch and too swollen there could be an infection and then you could add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to your mixture.

If you’d like to message me you’re more than welcome to I have almost 20 ear piercings most are done by needle 4 by gun. I’ve been around the block and can help with after care.

As mentioned above it could be the metal. Piercings should only ever be done with surgical steal earrings because they are nickel free and hypoallergenic. So I’d ask what metal it is if you don’t know.

A lot of people are allergic to nickel and that is commonly found in silver and cheap jewelry.

Like my left ear is hot, swollen and it looks like the ear is swallowing my earring. I got the piercing done in Claire's. Just not happy at all. I have been twisting it slightly and soaking my ears in salt and water , TCP. Phoned the doctors and they have given me an antibiotic for it just incase x

100% get pierced with a needle every time 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I will only get piercings from tattoo parlours (I only have ears pierced!)

Try not to keep twisting it as you're not really supposed to. Also sometimes salt and water can actually dry it out if used too much and if I remember correctly tcp isn't great either. If you manage to keep it in then I'd highly recommend neilmed. You can order it online and it's sterile, helped loads with all my piercings and as a few have said, definitely go to somewhere reputable that use needles if you have anymore done x

I have about 13 or so ear piercings. I found that the best way to heal them was always to just leave them alone until they’d healed somewhat, then clean them up a bit. The more I cleaned, fiddled, twisted, the worse they would get.
