Can I ask for a sweep?
I’m 37 weeks and have a midwife appointment on Thursday so will be nearly 38 weeks. I have gestational diabetes so am booked in for an induction at 39 weeks. The consultant also told me to ask for a sweep when I go for my final growth scan at 38+2. She did say, if growth scan shows baby is big they may induce me that day.
I was just wondering do you think I could ask the midwife this week for a sweep Incase I do need to be induced next week. It’s my 3rd baby, when I had my last midwife appointment two weeks ago she said baby’s head was already engaged. What do you think my chances are of her saying yes, or do you think because I am consultant led she will tell me to wait until I see them?

I am 38+5 with gestational diabetes too and my midwife said I could have a sweep on my 38 week app as long as my consultant okayed it on badger notes or wrote a letter to confirm it was okay
Ah thanks..I might see if I can speak to the consultant before I have my midwife appointment then. Have you had a sweep then? After reading a lot on this app I am hoping a sweep would start me off instead of relying on induction
As said above I’m booked in for one at 38 weeks but did have to be signed off by a consultant (I got it done over the phone) so definitely try and get that done before your app 😊
My consultant put in my notes for my midwife to start sweeps from 37 weeks. I’m 37 weeks on Wednesday and midwife has now booked me in for a sweep on Thursday😊😊
yeah I had my sweep on Friday and unfortunately no labour but I did lose my mucus plus / bloody show from it which it definitely better than nothing! I’m being induced on Thursday so still hoping labour comes naturally before and definitely worth asking your consultant!!🥰
