Changing formula

My 6 week old baby has always suffered with a bit of reflux. We currently feed cow and gate with carobel to thicken it which seems to have resolved the sickness, however he is having to have lactulose daily to offset the constipation and infacol with every feed to help with the wind. This doesn’t always work so we sometimes give a bit of gripe water. He is still screaming in pain and so uncomfortable during feeds so I’m thinking about trying to change his formula. I’m looking at either SMA, HIPP Organic or Kendamil. I also wondered about trying goat? I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem especially with cow and gate, and if changing formula helped? Thank you!

My LB went on omeprazole for reflux at 8weeks old, and we moved to Cow and Gate Comfort formula which has been amazing! The Comfort formula has a different milk protein in it that is easier for babies to digest so it helps their tummy, and I found his reflux is much better then on the normal formula. We tried the thickener too, but that just upset my boy more xx

My little girl was around 6 weeks old when I changed her from aptamil to kendamil! When she was on aptamil she had terrible reflux and when I changed her to kendamil she was great, it was near enough an instant change! She stopped spewing after feeds and she’s never had a problem with constipation or anything! She’s absolutely thriving on it and she’s almost 8 months now x

We was on cow and gate then changed to kendamil with carobel and that helped my boy out so much he was still being a bit sick but nowhere near what he was and kendamil seemed to agree with him better xx

thank you so much! Was the comfort milk better even without omeprazole? Xx

Avatar

thank you! I might give Kendamil a go, ideally I want to give up carobel because it is making him so constipated xx

thank you so much! I am going to give this a go and hopefully he stops being sick even without the carobel! Xx

yeah, he still suffers without the omeprazole because his reflux is quite severe (it's a family thing unfortunately) but I have noticed before he was on omeprazole and when he runs out he is definitely better on the comfort 😊xx

Reflux is such a minefield to navigate! Just have in mind that infacol can make reflux worse, there something in the orange that can irritate them! Gripe water worked well for my LO instead of infacol. At 6 weeks it is common for babies to suffer with constipation without reflux, they are still learning to manage their reflexes. Try some baby massage techniques to stimulate the bowels, gripe water in the feeds and a warm bath. My LO was prescribed different things and I changed formula countless times, it takes up to two weeks for a new formula to settle in the system so don’t go to quickly into changing things. We have been using hipp organic for sometime without medication or a thickener. I found cranial therapy through an osteopath, getting older and lots of masssge supported us treating the reflux.

My LO is combi fed and we had those symptoms when she had Kendamil! We tried Hipp Organic which seemed to improve slightly but our health visitor suggested she may have CMPA - we’ve been on a prescription formula since (and I’m now dairy free) and all the symptoms have improved massively x

this is so helpful, thank you so so much! I’ll knock infacol on the head. Do you put gripe water in the bottles and if so a full dose? I’m giving my little boy half a dose on its own when he’s in pain but it might be easier just to put it in the bottles x

Avatar

thank you so much! I’ll keep this in mind, my health visitor doesn’t seem to think he has an allergy but if things don’t improve I’ll try the GP xx

this is good to know, thank you so much! I thought about trying cow and gate anti reflux but it uses carob too so I wasn’t sure if he would still be constipated. Do you find your little one still poos okay with the anti reflux formula? Xx

Hiya I’ve not read through all the comments here so apologies if this has already been said. My son was getting breast milk and Aptimal and his reflux was awful. We tried various things before starting on omeprazole and this helped massively. I then read that DHA for brain and eye development that all formula has in it can make reflux symptoms worse. All formulas except Kendamil use fish oil and that’s what apparently trigger the reflux. Kendamil uses DHA from seaweed instead of fish and after starting on Kendamil he no longer needed the omeprazole. I don’t know if this is true or if it was just coincidence for my son because he was around 3 months old when we switched so maybe he has just grown out of it xx

I've had this with SMA and now switched to cow and gate... My LO is 11 weeks and on SMA little steps he had been so bad absolutely nothing worked he would be crying inconsolably for hours day and night. I tried lactose free to see if he was any better however he was quite poorly and that ruled out allergies so I have switched to cow and gate after speaking to my HV who advised some babies just don't agree with some formula and it's a case of trial and error. X

Reflux baby here too! We use nannycare goats formula, and honestly the best decision we ever made! We had gaviscon and omeprazole prescribed but just stuck with formula and carobel in the end, no longer using carobel at 5 months old! We also used an osteopath, although she is still sick. Where going down the root of early weaning now she is 21 weeks old! X

My son “wiggles his bum” not sure how to approach it

He is 3. He lays face down and goes left right - wiggles his privates on his bed/sofa etc. Calls it “wiggling his bum” should I be concerned or is it a good idea to set boundaries? Not sure how to approach this. Advice appreciated

Breastfeeding past 12 months

Guys im getting irritated. Ive been ebf now 8 months and my mum keeps saying in diff ways that “oh ur mummys gonna wean you off the breast soon” when shes 12 months.

And today shes telling me you cant breastfeed past 12 months.

And when i said i am going to and want to reach at least 2 years. Shes not saying “oh so u wanna breastfeed till 5”

Like what?

And then she’s saying because i still have baby weight i should go on manjaro. But obvs cant do that while breastfeeding.

So cant you still loose weight while breastfeeding past 12 months through diet and exercise?

Is anyone else’s family saying this about breastfeeding past 12 months? My mums just making me feel like im doing something wrong.

Is it not normal? I feel just annoyed because this is my baby and if im good with still breastfeeding her and if she still wants to breastfeed why should i stop.

How does breastfeeding past 12 months look like ?

Thank you! My rants over💗💗

Don't know what to do

Hey im a first time mom to my baby girl. she is 20 days old and last night was up most the night. I've had 2 hours sleep total im so tired but she won't sleep at all. She will wake up and have some of a bottle and then when I put her down after burping her she will start crying half an hour later for more. She's on 6 ounces of hungry baby formula. Im just not sure why this is happening. Could it be sleep regression?

Dummy removal cold turkey at 8m

My LO (8 months) wakes constantly, hourly sometimes because she needs the dummy. I wouldn’t even mind if I had to just reinsert it. But if it falls out she wakes and will escalate until I hold her. Depends on it strongly to fall asleep. Even holding her I need to give her the dummy. Takes ages to get her back in cot. This is all night. I’m so sleep deprived and can’t function. I’m considering removing cold turkey. Any advice ??? Is this the right thing to do

Wake window ideas

Hi All my LO is 9.5 weeks, sleeps really well at night (a 5-7 hour stretch, followed by a 3-4 hour) but that means she is awake lots in the day, she’ll have 30-40 minute naps and is wide awake 1.5-2 hours at a time, before I can even think about trying to get her back to sleep.
I’m just looking for age appropriate wake window ideas, she hates lying under her baby gym, she’ll do probably max 10 mins a day, we do tummy time, but again she’s not a fan. She loves just sitting and chatting with me face to face and reading books, we probably read 6 a day.
I’m open to all ideas please
