Hi Ladies, probably a daft question .. I have gel polish on my nails (not false/acrylic) and I'm not due to have a c section but obviously should anything happen and I need an emergency section what do I do about my nails? NHS website seems to say I shouldn't have anything on my nails but my midwife hasn't said anything to me. What are other mum to be's doing about their nails?

I'm booked in for a section and my midwife said as long as I've got nothing on my toes then they can monitor me on them ☺️ so I'll be keeping my gel on my nails

I wonder what would happen though if you had gel on and got rushed for a section? Anybody any idea please? X

I gave birth yday and had gel nails. Had an assisted delivery so theatre and lots of monitoring and there were a few times the monitor struggled to pick up my heart rate but I wouldn’t worry too much about it as they can make other arrangements such as put it sideways or on your toes. I had a French gel manicure and have seen people say it’s easier to pick up if a lighter colour but not sure how true that is.

Aww thank you ladies! Really appreciate it 🥰 I know it sounds silly and a bit vain but I didnt really want to get rid of my nails if I coukd help it as I'm so used to them I think ill be all thumbs without them 😅

I'm going in for an elective c section and my paperwork says to have bare nails or at least one! Might go for a neutral gel colour and if they have any problems with monitoring i could always just pick one nail off 😂

I had my pre op today for my elective c section and I asked this question as I have biab on my nails, they said I could just take it off my pinky fingers and that would be good enough

I’ve just had a section with gel nails on there was no issue and I wasn’t told prior that I couldn’t have them
