As my other post shared my experience on Ward 9, I also wanted to share my experience on the labour ward at MK UH.
The two sets of midwives I got throughout my labour were absolutely fantastic! Two of them were students and I felt so safe with them, they were hands on and kind and really made a huge difference.
However, my birth plan wasn’t read or even considered, when I was moved into the room one of the midwives (who luckily didn’t stay with me) came into the room telling me off for being in pain - I was crying and yelling out (back to back labour, I had 2x pethidine and gas and air which didn’t work) which made me feel worse. She wasn’t compassionate or empathetic at all.
When it came to me getting the epidural, the woman giving it to me couldn’t manage and it took her 3 attempts by at that point I declined to have it and asked for her to stop.
Due to me needing to go to theatre after the birth for an emergency procedure, I was rushed and a 45 minute procedure turned into 2 hours.
My partner was left on his own with the baby, no staff, no one. On his own.
He was absolutely sick with worry because he heard nothing about what was happening to me and if I was okay - in my birth plan I had stated that in an emergency he needs to be made aware of everything.
The woman who attempted my epidural gave me my spinal (multiple tries, again) and afterwards she even admitted that she shouldn’t have tried to give it to me because I was too far gone for it to have even worked.
The staff (2 sets of midwives and the whole team who were there during theatre) were absolutely fantastic but the flaws lie in their communication abilities with me and my partner.

It sounds like it was the same woman who gave me the epidural. It took her 3 attempts to finally do it. I was in agony with pain.

she told me to turn my music off when she came in the room too, such a negative experience I had with her.. sorry you had that too..

So sorry to hear that, it’s so scary you never know who or what to expect when you’re in so much pain. I was admitted in hospital and got induced, the night staff ignored me completely when I was having signs of Labour and just kept giving me paracetamol and morphine ( didn’t work because my Labour already started) they wouldn’t check my cervix until 5am and I got to the point of crying and screaming that’s when I was being heard. From 2cm at 5am to 8 at 8am Real quick. I don’t know why there’s staff like that, ignoring someone for what? To avoid doing work? If you lazy leave the damn job!
