Birth Control Breastfeeding
My baby boy is 3 weeks old, I am exclusively breastfeeding him at the moment, I am going to to try expressing when he’s around 6 weeks.
What forms of contraception are any fellow BF Mum’s using?
I was previously on the copper coil but we plan on trying for baby no.2 in around 12-18 months so I don’t see the point in having a coil fitted to have it taken out again quite soon after!
I’m also mega nervous about any potential side effects of any other contraceptive methods!
My skin has been so clear and the best it has ever been since I have been pregnant and given birth so I really don’t want to risk getting any hormonal acne outbreaks 😭
I’d welcome hearing other ladies experiences of contraception whilst breastfeeding please?

We’re using condoms as I don’t get on with hormonal contraceptives and the coil scares me!

I have the implant in my arm and been breastfeeding for almost a year no complaints I still get my period and mood swings be crazy lol
Natural Cycles 🙂
My OH doesn’t seem keen on condoms 😩🤣 I suggested doing the natural cycles thing but it seems a tad risky!
no nor do I! Effects my hair and skin!

I used the copper IUD before (which I think is the same as the coil?) And plan use it again even tho we will have another in ~2 years. It's so reliable, I can't imagine using anything else.
I must admit I fell pregnant on the natural cycles. I was doing the temp and ovulation sticks & using condoms on our red days.. 🤷🏼♀️. Worked for 9 months though
Have you tried the SKYN ultra thin condoms? It honestly is like there’s nothing there

The levlenorgestrel “Mini Pill” is what I use :) my skin has stayed clear since I started it and I haven’t noticed any other side effects

Natural cycles can be unreliable with breastfeeding and irregular cycles - mine stayed irregular for a good while after birth. Also, dealing with night wakings can affect the accuracy of your temp readings. We used condoms until we were ready for number two. Given you’re planning a second anyway, could pull out method work? I know people on here love to rage on about how there are sperm in pre-cum, but it worked for us for many years of very regular sex, and if you can risk an oops baby anyway, perhaps worth the risk? We’re done breeding now so he’s heading for the snip as I don’t want to trust natural cycles, condoms or pull out, and I don’t want any hormones in me that aren’t my own!
I had the depot injection for the first time around 4 months after I gave birth and I wouldn’t have it again! I lost all my baby weight and some but the depot made me put weight back on and I had some mood swings/headaches. I’ve gone back onto the pill x
