My baby is 20 days old tomorrow and he’s going through 5ozs every 2 and a half hours roughly he is gaining weight and his nappies are wet/dirty enough but is this because he’s in a growth spurt? Everyone else who I’ve spoke to is only on around 3ozs every 3-4 hours. First time mum so everything is new!

For 3-4 weeks, my midwife had suggested to give 120ml for every feed . May be it would be better to ask HV on the same.

To be honest I think it varies per baby, mines taking 4oz every 4 hours but HV tried pushing to change it to every 3 hours which just wasn’t working, he was born 6lb 9oz and now at 17 days was 7lb 15oz and everyone’s happy with his weight gain so just going with what works for us atm xx

Our little one was showing hunger cues post feed so we started giving him 5oz around 2.5 weeks but he gained weight way too quickly, our midwife said they should only be on 4oz maximum at this point and that they can get confused between sucking for hunger and sucking for comfort. You can work out how much they should be having per day based on their weight (150-200ml per KG of their body weight per day) and then from that you can work out an average amount per feed. Our little boy eats way over his average per feed but it adds up to the daily amount so we’re not too bothered. I’m a FTM too and had no idea this was a thing j thought he was just growing!

Mine was on 4 oz from 2 weeks, 5 at 4 weeks. But she would scream until she got it😂 now she just has what she wants when she wants it x
