Fever

Hi ladies,

My LO has started with a fever last night, I am doing all I can to help, giving Calpol and plenty of fluids.

Do you have any advice on how to get through it? I feel sick with worry, I can't stop crying, feel so guilty 😭 just seeing my baby in distress is killing me.

Thank you

Hi Lauren! I just went through this and still he’s not 100% but the fever has gone thankfully. Just got to try and keep calm and relaxed for them as much as possible as they feed off your energy. We rung 111 and we ended up having a consultation video call and him checking our LOs breathing etc etc as well really did help. We saw our GP next day for all the checks and it is a viral infection and it’s just one of those we just give lots of cuddles and calpol or nurofen. We found nurofen helped better in the evenings to get him more comfortable to sleep. I hope you’re doing okay and your LO feels better soon!

thanks Georgia, I may take her to the doctors, think sometimes you need a professional to tell you everything is alright, I'm trying my hardest to keep calm, but she's my first child and this is our first fever, it's very scary xx

Yeah it really helped me speaking to the doctor over the phone and then seeing my GP. Our little boy is our first too and god every time I left the room it was like I was doing it to take a deep breath each time and make sure I didn’t cry. So scary!! I would defo see your doctor just to clear things and make you feel more at ease. Hope you guys are okay soon

My little boys had one over the weekend, the high temp lasted 2 days. I found paracetamol didn’t help but ibuprofen did incase you’ve not got any of that x

do you know what ibuprofen you used? I don't have any and would like to get her some x

Just check her body and make sure she doesn’t have any spots your not sure about before giving ibruprofen. If she has chickenpox which is unlikely it can make it much worse. If no sign of any spots then give it at alternating doses to paracetamol.

it was the calpol ibuprofen instead of paracetamol x
