IVF due to start, partner had flu

We're due to start our 2nd round of IVF this month (end of the month) but my partner currently has flu! I've read a few reports about how having flu can impact sperm quality. I know this is a really specific question but has anyone actually got pregnant when their partner had been unwell?! I don't know whether to postpone for another two months to let his sperm recover?

Candy is right. You can absolutely drive yourself mad by looking stuff up too much and stressing over the “perfect” conditions to conceive.

Accept that it’s never going to be perfect timing and just go with the flow. And if you have doubts or concerns, it’s better to consult your own doctor than Dr Google.

I think it is all down to how bad the flu is - fever can kill the sperm (temperature is important - which is why the testicles are outside the body, and not inside it, and why things like lots of cycling isn’t ideal for men going through IVF), and they are 3 months in the making, so if he’s had a fever then it may be better to portpone - I certainly wouldn’t want to be injecting expensive drugs for 2 weeks to get to the egg collection day and find out my husband has produced no live sperm (and freezing eggs has a much lower success rate than freezing embryos, I believe). I would definitely speak to your consultant and get some guidence. xx
